Realised tonight that, although they are using US dollars for the prices, they are using kilometres per hour for the vehicle stats, which makes no sense if they are pandering to the US audience.

They did that in the last series as well. If it's for the USA then imperial units please, if it's not, then drop the dollar bit, it's just bloody annoying. Or if they insist of converting to USD then just do it on the graphic in the bottom left corner and stick to doing the deal in local currency.

Lucky kid getting that Escort bought for his first car… (gratifying to see that my price prediction was pretty much spot on!).

Found last night's show a little dull if I'm honest. I'm a fan of WD and I've watched it since it first began all those years ago with dodgy old 500 quid cars. Brewer is a good presenter, but the WD Trading Up format really illustrates how much Edd China brings to the show.

Someone give him his own programme… maybe something along the lines of Car SOS?

Yep me too, I turned it off before the end as it was too annoying, dollars, then km's, it ruins a half decent show, won't be watching any more.

Enjoyed the second episode - probably because it was UK based and I could relate to the vehicles.

Particularly liked the MK1 Golf GTi - £3250 seemed like a great price for it or is this genuinely what decent ones can be picked up for?

I found that episode a bit boring. I thought that a lot of Mikes logic was a bit questionable and the prices he paid for some of the cars a bit on the high side. The Golf didn't look in great condition for its price. I would have put that as a sub £3k car, probably closer to £2.5k although it is quite hard to judge condition from the TV. The Freelander was a huge risk with the reliability issues and known problems that these suffer from. I suspect that all of the cars must be given a much more thorough going over before purchase than we get to see in the program.

I much prefer the episodes set in other countries. Intersting to see some of the cars that normally wouldn't be found in the UK.

I presume you'll be avoiding Fast'n'loud and chasing classic cars because they insist on those pesky dollars too?!

mildy irritating yes but hardly too much to stop watching surely?

'Found' the rest of the episodes of series 2 online and it doesn't get any better I'm afraid

Maybe it's too quick, but the way he does everything by just turning up and meeting a contact and then making profit within a day or two.

It just gives a totally unrealistic view of car dealing. He turns up to buy a car, gives it a polish and then makes £1500 on it the same day.

That and the dollars thing gets on my tits

No because F&L is an American car show, and they don't use several different currencies in the show, Trading Up has used AUS Dollars and UK Pounds, converted into US Dollars every time money is mentioned, yes its enough to stop me watching it as its stupidly annoying.

The dollars reference is down to velocity.com (Velocity by Discovery) not sure what the relationship is between Discovery & Velocity, but I am guessing that Velocity 'might' have a bigger shout in income/production costs... and as they are an American company then the same programme is 'sold' to both the UK and American markets.

So, a few references to pounds and dollars covers both markets... might be a bit annoying but one production cost and two markets?

(I was the Caterham 'chap' in Mondays episode... much to the amusement of the workshop and I haven't even seen it yet!! smile )

The main issue with the dollars, is that it is every single time a price is mentioned, so can be three times in the same sentence.
By all means keep the conversion in for the US market, but do the deal in the currency of the country he is in, then do the conversion in a 10 second roundup at the end of the deal.

The dollar conversion thing is very repetitive and tiresome and could easily have been done in a separate voiceover for the US market or they could have had a video caption flash up showing the price in Euro/Sterling/USD/AUS$ whenever a car was bought or sold.

Mike popped up on an episode of Overhaulin' recently, for no apparent reason I could discern.

Or just put some text up in the corner of the screen whilst he's still saying "'old out ya hand"

I liked the way Mike wore a T shirt over the top of a long sleeved shirt and wearing blue gloves while working on the car!

I can only assume they put the rollcage on the 7 after Brewer had got in it.

He did look a bit like the stay puft man.

For all the pisstaking about his "oldahtyerandfeller" style, you've to to credit Mike Brewer with being a pretty good salesman.

"Dear TV Network: I'd like to make a program where you fly me round the world on expenses, pretending to buy and sell interesting cars to make a profit". Well done, Sir !

Good start to the series. Very enjoyable watch. Didn't know Manheim's had auctions in Australia. Thought they were a UK company.

That first dealer in Brazil had some really good cars in his showroom. Particularly liked the Alfa Spider. Never heard of a Chevrolet Opala until seeing it on the show last night.
