How much greater would the overheads be if he simply did two takes? One with "and that's X US Dollars" and then "that's X Pounds" then just edit one US version and one UK version?

Or simply do everything in local currency and then dub a voice-over/graphic summary in post production to convert to dollars/pounds?

I can kind of understand the constant conversions to $US, if the show is mainly for the US, but Kilometres, what's all that about?

Mike saying things like, "So I'm heading 415 km East to meet a guy called Pedro"

He might as well say 415 mangoes.....

That was a good episode. He should do a whole series in America.

Yep, was a pretty good episode.

Bet that E-Type is gonna cost him though... not a cheap car to restore.

mater of time before he does methinks. A wheeler dealers US version would net him and the big fella some big bucks. Good luck to them I say...

Antonio, he guy who was helping Mike out in Austin also features in a Discovery Turbo TV programme called Chrome Underground in which he and his business partner buy classic cars from foreign countries and ship them back to the UK. The first episode was on last week and I don't think I've ever seen a worse reality TV show in terms of fake jeopardy, obvious over-acting and clearly set-up scenarios. If you see it advertised I'd advise you give it a miss because it's total crap. Stick to Wayne Carini's "Chasing Classic Cars".

I presume you'll be avoiding Fast'n'loud and chasing classic cars because they insist on those pesky dollars too?!

mildy irritating yes but hardly too much to stop watching surely?
No because F&L is an American car show, and they don't use several different currencies in the show, Trading Up has used AUS Dollars and UK Pounds, converted into US Dollars every time money is mentioned, yes its enough to stop me watching it as its stupidly annoying.
Especially when he's doing the deals in the UK.

Also, we all know that these profgrammes are scripted, but the continual quoting of both figures during the negotiations just makes it obviously so.

Quite. In fact of all the ways to show the buying and selling price of the cars in both currencies, negotiating in both is probably the worst I can think of.

Your not kidding.

Watching this (Chrome Underground) just now. Their buying a VW in i think Brazil. This has them running around in an armoured car, with a psycho ex navy seal doing forward rolls every where, making out their going to get "Jacked" at every corner.

Last week in Trading up, we had Mike doing the same thing although he strutted about in flip flops and a sweaty shirt for protection.

Classic Car rescue has an American voice over that converts the money to dollars when it is shown on Velocity in the US.

I watched Wheeler Dealers in the US last week (P38 range rover) and no dollar conversion took place, all prices still in pounds

It was quite good in the US, as no annoying conversion had to take place!

I'm in the "entertaining, but take it with a pinch of salt" group.

I think it would be amusing if the did something along the lines of 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown. Brewer & China in Gas Monkeys place buying and doing up hotrods, Rawlins and Kaufmann in the UK doing up uk stuff, could have some interesting results biggrin

The entire series would consist of Rawlins and Kaufmann traipsing around muddy scrapyards looking for a Cortina that they could restore in a week. smile

I thought you were going to suggest that Mike starts off with some old slag and ends up with Rachel Riley.

Just saw this and wonder if it is the same vehicle Mike had on the show.
