They've modelled the wrong van. He's building the latest transit custom and the modelled van is about 10 years older.

It doesn't really matter.

500bhp at 150mph is a tractive effort of just 567kg. As this is an "average speed race" they can just add mass to the rear, but even with a std van, it only needs a tyre mU of less than 1.

Yeah, what he said. It's obvious, surely everyone knows that?

No,I've no bloody clue what he just said either hehe

Same trouble as last season, all that simulation, time and money, and it comes out with something worse than a one-man band in a shed could have managed in couple of weeks.

I don't think it helped their cause when it seemed to take two months to replace a couple of panels and a few suspension components.

For closed circuit racing where acceleration and cornering matter, we add aerodynamic downforce to increase the maximum tyre load that can be supported without adding more mass, because that affect acceleration (longitudinal and lateral)

But this is NOT a closed circuit race, it's a time trial, with, broadly speaking, just one acceleration, hence slowing acceleration is not an issue, so adding ballast (mass) rather than using aero devices which increase drag is the way to go.

Some fast corners on the course though. Having had a few hairy moments in poorly loaded vans in the past I'm pretty certain that using a big weight to shift the centre of mass rearwards is probably a bad move.

Slightly serious question then, instead of adding the rear wing would a rear diffuser be better? In my head it creates less drag but I am likely probably wrong.

Just watching this......so funny watching Stu and Paul on TV laugh

Stu had some good stories about the filming with Guy when I talked to him back in June at Pendine.

Yep, would have been easy to add. But I guess they had a rear wing on the shelf and hence a much easier sell...mind, as Max says, just adding some weight to the rear would have done. Or just some DOT approved slicks and don't bother.

Even if it was, surely you'd use LIDAR systems rather than trying to guess tyre slip and expansion?
