Can I watch AoS on C4 tonighy without seeing Ultron? Or will something not make sense/miss a link etc.
We are several eps behind.
There is a UK screenings thread for AoS and another thread for US screenings.

Watched this yesterday morning in 3D.

Simple review... Loved it.

Detailed (but spoiler free) review...

Joss Wheadon really does know how to put together a character ensemble better than many other directors. Everyone gets a good spot in the limelight here but for me the stand out from the original team is actually Hawkeye. He is great in this movie, gets loads to do and hands down gives the best 'pep talks' ever!

Ultron is played very well by Spader, not big on the comic version of him so don't know how 'accurate' he is but here he is properly menacing but has masses of actual personality too. A proper threat.

The new introduction to the twins (Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver) is good but it's the 'other guy' who is exceptionally cool. Don't want to spoil him as he has been left out of most of the marketing for a reason, his introduction is a great moment and the way he plays is just so tonally perfect. The way he plays off the other avengers is just great, especially Thor. Almost my new favourite marvel superhero already (gotta love hulk though)

Footnote, not plot related...

Earlier in the thread I mentioned that they filmed some of this on the old 'BMX track' in Hawley Woods, Hampshire. I grew up near there and the section of woods they filmed in was my old stomping grounds as a kid. I was hoping to recognise some of it (the way the hills step down is very distinctive and there is a series of jumps and banked corners that used to make up out track that are still there today) but wasn't holding my breath.

Seeing Captain America riding his motorcycle not only on the track that I could recognise but actually following the route we used to ride too!! Up the jump, hard left on the banked corner... That was a proper geek out moment!! (But he did take one of the corners wrong, if he had gone lower he would have got a faster run into the next one hehe )

I enjoyed it very much, but not as much as the first film. One of the best things about it for me was Hawkeye. And ordinary man with an extraordinary day job.
The weak point of the film surprisingly was the action. Perhaps it's because I was viewing it in 2D, but at times the big battle scenes felt like a confusing mess. That was not the case in the previous film, even during the enormous battle of New York.
As a former Marvel comics geek, I really enjoyed the introduction of Ulysses Klaw and Wakanda, paving the way for Black Panther.
And possibly the best line of the film from Captain America: "If you get killed, walk it off.

If the helicarrier is from the first one, how come it wasn't confiscated by the US government after the events of Winter Soldier when SHIELD effectively ceased to exist? Which is what I meant, Fury turns up with that, and the crew to run it, from where? Other than that...the discrepancies between AoS and the films, I loved it.
Nick Fury is a character who is well capable of hiding A helicarrier and the secret army from shield and the US government.

Though I do think the new Avengers line-up sucks compared to the original. biggrin
I suppose the camp at the end if a private enterprise STark funded...or a government sponsored Avengers initiative with ex-SHIELD tech guys.

The Avengers have always had an extended number of members and former members who leave and rejoin the team over the years. All the guys shown at the end have been part of the team, not a replacement.
From the movie maker's point of view, it makes sense to prepare for when the main stars decide to leave the project, either individually or en masse.

Also there have been more than one Avengers team operating simultaneously, based in different cities. But I seriously doubt the Marvel Cinematic Universe will go down that route.

Not as good as the first film. Days of Future Past showed a better interpretation of Quicksilver. A rare win for Fox over Marvel. I enjoyed the opening scene but I was surprised by how shonky much of that CGI was. Don't waste money seeing this in 3D either. Adds little. I enjoyed it but the ending too similar to the first film (and stole Gravitons Thunder for a future sequel)

Surely should have cameoed Black Panther as well

Yeah I know, I used to read the comics. I never liked the West Coast Avengers, they always came across as a sub-par team to the real ones. Likewise, the new line-up is weak in my view without Thor, Iron-Man and Hulk. But I bet we'll see all of them in the upcoming Infinity wars story....along with deaths.
I did feel that maybe towards the end there wasn't enough time for everyone, Hulk especially. So I hope they get the timing right in the next one.

I have the opposite view of Quicksilver (but the Days Of Future Past "kitchen scene" was outstanding.

I also was thinking "that's from the Graviton story". They've already hinted at Graviton in AoS, but I guess he's not in their plans for the future of the Avengers.

One thing i'm not clear on WRT to Jarvis:

After the Vision came online - one of the characters asked why he sounded like Jarvis. Stark said something like "Jarvis's matrix was imprinted into the Vision". He then went and selected a new female AI for his Iron Man suit called "Friday". I am unclear as to whether the Vision is Jarvis incarnated - or whether Jarvis was simply used as the template for the Vision and still exists as an AI entity too. Due to the fact that Stark choose a new female AI - it would seem to be the former, yet the way the vision was acting, he didn't appear to retain many of Jarvi's personality traits. So does this mean Jarvis was essentially killed in the process of being loaded into the Vision's body? Pretty sad if that is the case.

Half Jarvis, bit of Ultron plus Asgardian Lightning an infinity gem and a body made from the same material as Caps shield. No explanation of his powers. We know what they are based on the source material but apparently he can grow a cape as well.

Some of that cgi was really poor for a film with this budget. Characters looked weightless as per early Spider-Man films.

Yeah, I was never a fan of Vision, and never really knew what he could do. But he's a cyborg that has anti-wifi powers and cape producing abilities? He also has a head torch and is pure of metal heart.
At least the voice of JARVIS continues. biggrin

So you come into a thread on a subject you consider childish and insult the people who enjoy it. Yet when people react somehow they are the immature ones?

Yeah, keep telling yourself that cupcake. Guess the air is thin on the pedestal of superiority you think your sitting on, it's giving you delusions that you matter.

As long as cretins with the brain of a 12 year old keep watching this st, Hollywood will keep putting money into it; instead of proper films the rest of us can enjoy.
Go on then, what's a 'proper' film?

Also, you do realise first and foremost this is a kids film, aimed at kids? Like most movies, because that's where the money is? It's ultimately made by Disney, please do tell us what these 'proper' films are that Disney would be producing instead.
