What percentage of the audience do "the rest of us" consist of.

Every year we get the spectacular "blockbuster" type movies - but as a percentage of all movies made - they are actually a tiny fraction of what is put out.

According to wikipedia - there were around 250 movies released in 2014 (and i'm sure this isn't totally comprehensive when you consider art house releases, foreign language movies etc). Of those - how many were your typical big budget, special effects laden, "aimed at 12 years old" hollywood blockbuster types - a dozen or so (5%)?

Somehow I think "the rest of us" (whoever they are) has more than enough choice from what's left.

Well I've just got back from watching this.

With my wife and two kids, 11 and 15. We had a nice meal out, then sat together and enjoyed a family movie for 2.5 hours. On the way home we've talked about it, laughed and overall had a bloody good night out.

I'm sorry if that means in your eyes, I'm some sort of cretin.

Well I was thoroughly entertained, a good blend of humour and escapism, so glad I'm not a cinema snob!

How about you have a word with this guy 'Big' Al - a clear troll coming into the thread purely to cause trouble.

The rest of us are simply reacting to his trolling posts.

Just another post that reminds me why I don't post much on PH anymore.

I went to see this in imax on Friday.
It's a good film, but just not quite up to the first ones standard.
There feels like a lot has been cut from it,so certain scenes don't make any sense. I can't do the spoiler thing on my iPad, so I'll just say the part where one of the avengers goes off on their own for a while. I know why this happens, but don't understand why he needed to recruit someone holding a book first. Was it just a chance for another cameo?
good, but just not great.

7.5/10

1 thing i'm not sure about. I thought the black guy with the wings died on MAOS. So why was he at the end of Avengers

I prefer it to the first one, but I too didn't quite get some things. Now you point the Thor thing out, hmmm, I can only guess after the fact that he needed the scientists help to locate the cave? Though I don't know, I find THor boring. Deleted scenes needed? Bit too much going on.

It really was amazing... In fact next time i get a chance I'm tempted to pop up there and take photos of 'the track' and have a look around.

Watched Graham Norton last night, it is actually super funny. Jeremy Renner and Mark Rufalo are funny blokes.

As for Falcon.... He didn't die in Winter Soldier, he was with Steve Rogers right at the end of the film when he agreed to help Cap in his mission to find Bucky. Quite a big scene (by Nick Fury's grave)

Saw this last night. Enojoyed it, but not quite as much as the first. I'll spoiler the below, but don't think I'm giving anything away.

A few things that take the edge off it a little for me, are the fact we know the main characters have more films to come, so despite how desperate the fights get, they are not gonnaa be killed off. Some of the fight scenes got a little boring, 'oh look Captain America is gonna take out 10 baddies with one fling of his shield again'. The Hulk v Ironman scene was excellent, but apart from that, not really anywhere near enough Hulk time. I thought some of the story was quite technical, and while this is aimed at youngsters, I'm not 100% sure they'll all be able to follow it. I like Ultron and his personality, but did they cut some of his dialogue that appears in the trailer from the film?

My first post and its just my luck that it could be controversial looking at previous posts on this film.

I thought it was average and wished I'd saved my money for another more worthy film. It was a re-run of the first film with much too many super heroes now involved. I could write a whole article on its short-comings but part of the malaise its engendered means I can't even bring myself to do that.

Sorry but I can't agree with the vast majority of you on this.

Do kind of agree with too many superheroes involved. They have to be careful with the 2 infinity war films. Sometimes a little less is more. I wonder if we'll all be talking about how good the Justice league films are when they come out, based on the lessons learned from Avengers?

Sooth! Big Al, just like Thor, has whipped out his mighty mallet, brandished it's enormous head it and yea, verily he swung it around in haphazard fashion and defeated the foul and subhuman illiterate troll, and banished him to beyond MIdgard!
Lo! And...zounds!

It was an enjoyable film but I think it demonstrated Joss Whedon's limitations as a director.

The next two are going to be directed by the pair that made the Winter Soldier and that really was a good film.
