To make the scene more dramatic and to justify the cost of the slowmo camera.

Fantastic programme, this is what The BBC does best.

David Attenborough completes the package and the next episode is already a must watch.

The camerawork is fantastic - but the excessive use of slow mo spoils things for me a bit.

I looked forward to this, as I do every BBC/DA series, but, alas, every time it's mostly stuff we have seen before! frown

Yes the barnacle goslings were just amazing and what great photography. Talk about a tough upbringing !
Best wildlife series yet and that is saying something given what has gone before.

This was the most disturbing thing I've ever seen on TV!
I was pleading with those little buggers not to jump and then spent the rest of the programme bhing about how 3 out of 5 was not alright and how irresponsible it was of their parents to build a nest up there...hehe

They sounded like squeeky toys as they bounced down the cliff face -

eech

ouch

argh

thud

And all the parents could do was stand there honking. Surely after x million years of evolution they might have worked out a way to piggy back the checks down to sea level.

Or bring them up food until they are old enough to fly?

Meerkats V ants were funny.

At least you knew they were still in the mix. I guess the time to start worrying is when they stop squeaking.

Absolutely compelling - You got the impression that the last gosling was further down the evolutionary chain that it's lemming imitating siblings. "so, you want me to jump 400ft to the ground with a 50:50 chance of death or injury. bh, you got wings.... fly that grass up to me"

That was a fair sized Tiger stalking the whales, although the footage of the beach with the albatrosses was a re-hash from a previous BBC wildlife programme.

Meerkats v Ants - hilarious!
