However you've used the example of Star Wars, which inherently requires a complete suspension of belief by suggesting there's a mystical pyschic force that certain heros and baddies can use - as an example that isn't 'make believe'!
You clearly didn't read all my post. In the Star Wars universe The Force is portrayed as a enigmatic belief system, like religion, not just a get-out-of-jail free card for trapped superawesomeheroes.Star Wars is also set in a completely made-up universe/galaxy and as such is totally artificial, unlike the superawesomeheroes-walking-among-us premise of the Marvel stuff.
Like I said (but you apparently didn't read and/or understand) if you're gonna do the whole make believe bit do it properly and get your ass to Alderaan (for example).

Fans'll be ready to buy a load more merchandise and DVDs by now
And that's all you need to know. If they were so boring and unpopular, the cinemas would be empty, no-one would be buying the hundreds of items of spin-off merchandise, and no more films would get made.Edited by Crossflow Kid on Wednesday 29th October 17:15
Luckily for me, I love it, I'm happy to pay to go to the cinema to watch it, and long may it continue.
I don't want to go and sit for two hours watching something miserable and realistic that will just depress me. I want to be entertained by a film, and the Marvel universe is doing just that.

Or is it just the dislike of anything 'mainstream'?
The force is used as a superpower throughout Star Wars, regardless of its 'enigmatic' background. Hell, it even has powerlevels in the same way something like Dragonball does. A nice convenient way for children to compare their favourite characters in strength rather than skills or ability.

Agree. Besides, that link doesn't say he's in at all. It's speculation based on some selected leaked emails. Pretty poorly written too as the leaks actually seem to confirm that talks broke down (there are a few more emails on the subject floating around that the article fails to mention). I for one hope they don't add him in unless Marvel have 100% creative control. Sonys ideas about Spider-Man just don't fit in the current marvel universe.
If this rumour is true, I now find myself wondering how they'll drop him into the story without jarring.
After all, he's not a minor character. New York was a big enough event for him to be there, throwing Web shaped traps for those chariot dudes.
To try and introduce him now, as coming from nowhere and having done nothing is gonna be a huge challenge. They can't make him a 'new' character, whose only just been bitten because he wouldn't have strong thoughts regarding his anonymity...
They've done so well so far, linking everything up is gonna be massive. They've either planned it all out from the beginning (I hope!), in which case this is a change they wouldn't have planned for, or they're making it up in stages, which is a recipe for a lack of coherent arc.

Well they want another reboot in some fashion for Spiderman so they could easily make it that he gets his powers after the events of New York. I would like to see the new Miles Morales Spiderman, I've seen enough of Peter Parker and crap love stories. After all, he's not a minor character. Marvel said a while ago that they want to keep some characters ever present in group movies with no solos, Hulk was one of them.
Thats a shame, I think after IM2 they should have done that with Iron Man. I can understand with Hawkeye and keep the Capt America/Black Widow combo as I think they work really well together.
