Discussion
I watched it, and specifically came on the TV forum to see if there was any discussion. My Virgin TV guide says it's 6 episodes, though I'm not sure whether it's accurate.
Obviously McCann inspired but with sufficient differentiation to be its own story. Jimmy Nesbitt always seems to play a slightly addled character these days but it worked perfectly here. It was quite hard to watch the part when he actually goes missing. I was expecting to doze off on the sofa but at the end I could have quite happily watched the second part.
Plenty of European names on the credits so it's obviously not just a standard BBC drama, which is refreshing because they have a bit of a formula these days. Anyone know where it was filmed? I think it was in Belgium rather than France.

I thought it was excellent (given the subject matter) and the emotional strain for Oliver's parents was palpable.
It will be very interesting to see how the plot develops.
1. The conversation James Nesbitt had with his father-in-law when the latter arrived in France - not sure what that was about but we will have to wait and see. 2. French policeman "rotting in jail" and the reference to Jean Martin (journalist interest). 3. Oliver's drawing of his father on the cellar wall, wow, was not expecting that!
Great drama and only one episode in.

Thought it was done very well, building intrigue nicely for the next episodes. James Nesbitt as a character actor plays an excellent tortured father. However, as the father of a 3 year old, I personally found the subject quite harrowing as this is the stuff of parents nightmares and is still something playing on my mind.

He did, but why was he over in France with his own son, and just happen to bump into them, and recognise them in the street, rather weird?
Yes it was a bit of a strange coincidence. I am expecting to discover he is single, hence having to bring his kid out to France while working, and has been fully briefed with photos etc.But perhaps not...

My daughter is slightly older, at 6, but I had much the same kind of reaction. There but for the grace of God, and all that.... So much so that I ended up turning it off about midway through. I'll probably pick it up on iplayer and give it another go.
Stuff like this used to wash over without any real effect until I had a child of my own. Now, I'm an easy target for any kind of ill child or child-in-distress story line :/

It is really ssslllllllooooowwwwww but, that seems to be the style now (as opposed to an episode of Scott and Bailey or UK Law and Order which almost leave you exhausted such is the pace...)
However, they've planted many teasers; the limp the French cop has now, but not before; the other French cop who is now in prison (for leaking to the dodgy reporter or did the hack expose the secret he alluded to...?); how does mummy end up with Brit cop and his spookily similar son; false alibi for paedo suspect bought by construction magnate; paedo now working in UK; why does Nesbitt not even know how to ask 'Parlez-vous anglais' after eight years in France?
So many questions.
