It wasn't his son in the video though?
No it wasn't, but Garrett said 'he was a lovely looking boy though' (or similar) and that flipped the switch.

It was a bad move to do that in the search for Oliver, but it was a snap impulse and Garrett deserved it for sure!

One more thing - they've made it a point quite a few times to have James mistaken for Olly. A few different characters have done this... Could he have been the actual target and they took the wrong boy? That might divert the story back onto Mark and something he's done / his job. Given he's quite a big name, it surprises me that he's has so little involvement so far wink
I like your thinking there. In all previous episodes Mark is described as a 'family liason officer' but in just the one was is described as 'works for Interpol'. It seems somewhat coincidental that a British copper would be on holiday in the same small French town, and him effectively be able to say to his bosses back home "sorry Guv, some kid got abducted from the place I was on holiday, are you cool with me staying here a few weeks whilst they sort it out?" Surely in real life a trained liason officer would be sent out from Tony/Emily's 'home' force?

So is Mark really a bigger cheese than is being made out, he does work for Interpol, and was based in Chalons du Bois investigating French-based Romanian bad-asses who have gone and abducted Oliver by mistake, intending to grab his kid? The mistake has been realised as soon as it blew up in the media so Oliver has had to meet his maker so as to not lead to the culprits?

Tony has full on meltdown at Mark for being the cause of losing his son and wife, so smacks him up big time.

Except where does Garret and the paedo ring come in, unless the Romanians were the abductors and it's all just a TV version of 'Taken' with boys for sale, not teenage American girls with CIA trained fathers.... smile

James being Marks son?

As far as I am aware only Emilly has ever looked at James and saw Olly.

Who else has?

Also AFAIK James was never in France.

There was also the 'mum?' when he woke up in hospital,

And yes, he was in france, in the very first episode where the woman (I can't remember the mums name TBH) runs after him in the street thinking it was Oliver, it's where they first met Mark.

Emilly is the main lead lady.

James real mum is obviously around because she turned up in hospital when James broke his ankle

Not sure there is anything in it TBH.

Talking of 'mum', anyone notice how similar Emily now looks to James' mum?

No neither do I. I just think they made a point of showing her face when he said 'mum?' then continued with 'Where is she?'

IMO The Romanians are nicking kids across Europe, Carl Zeig is in on it, Garrett was a buyer and so was Bourg (now 'cured') and he will have something to do with it coming out.

Oh and another thing... what happened to the tapes from the boat?

It's clear that they either went down / were burnt with the boat or however he disposes of the body as Garrett's company still has his name in the present day (and you would think that would have been changed if he was outed as a paedophile, murderer and rapist...) OR that they were found / Tony turned them over to the police and it was covered up for some reason.

That begs some questions does it not?

Either Tony has destroyed evidence of 53 kids being abused / raped / murdered or it's being covered up for some reason. Maybe that's what the journalist means by "I know what you did..." wink

I think the point they were trying to make was more about Emily - in that she ain't James mum and she childless. How sad for her etc

I imagine Tony got rid of Garretts boat - destroy all the evidence. Afterall he doesnt wnat the Police looking for Garrett anyway.

I imagine it's not that easy to 'get rid' of a boat? hehe

But it does tie in, Garrett disappears with boat, wife goes mental with the despair and imagines herself and Garrett on a boat together forever..

Loved this episode, is a bit confusing at times. I'm assuming that Garret is dead, and Tony might have done time, so maybe that's how Emily and officer Lock Stock get together?

But....what about the tapes? Tony could have gone to the police, it would have been game over for Garret and a lot of other people, and surely they would find Oliver, or what happened to him?

Its only an 8 year gap plus it sounds like he's been back a few times with false hope previously.

Gripping quality drama from the BBC.

This , strictly, horizon are worth the licence fee alone. No wonder other countries are in awe of the BBC.

Late to this topic, and only got to see the latest episode today.
Very early on my mrs said she thought Mark could be something to do with it, which i casually laughed off, but now i'm not so sure. Garrett was absolute scum and now looks like he got what he deserved on the boat that day.
Guessing Garrett and whoever his "friends" were, were either buying or maybe even selling kids to/from the mysterious Romanian scum/gang who could now be in Brussels maybe?
I think its been a great watch, at times maybe a bit of a slow burner but always enough to keep you hooked, looking forward to how its going to play out?

Is Olly by some miracle still alive, (probably not) and will we know the killer or could it be someone that none of us have seen yet???

Also, what has happened to the scumbag reporter of late?

Wasn't expecting that at the end. That explains the limp and why the other copper is in jail. Other than that the episode was fairly slow going.

Finally.

For some reason not knowing why he limped was driving me nuts!

When the reporter was interviewing Bourg, the camera panned out and showed kids toys in his house....
