So the coin is an Alcoholics Anonymous sobriety coin, same as woman who runs the hotel.

Hmm.
What does that tell us?

IIRC she says that one gets given for every year of staying sober. I guess one has gone missing somewhere.

Are there any other recovering alcoholics in the show?

I don't see the big point about the B and B people being involved though - would hardly be a twist or that interesting.

the recovering alcoholic is the husband of the b and b not the wife.

The Moroccon detective...gets a job as a policeman in France whilst (presumably) on the run as a murderer from Morocco? Seriously?

He gets knifed on the day of the visit - who knows he has visitors? Who knows who his visitors are? Even the guy himself wasn't expecting the visit so how could 'others' prepare a murder in time (and they made it look like quite a big operation with all the disinterested felons shuffling around not noticing).

Not that I'm not enjoying it, but some of the gaps really annoy.

I think it warrants an award for makeup - the ageing and detail changes are really good, even if Baptiste drew the short straw with the limp mode.

The husband was outside the B&B looking shifty last night as well.

"A boy goes missing, people investigate it and find out what happened".

There you go, that's it in a nutshell but that's not how TV works. The art is in how you tell the story biggrin

b) it is getting dragged out somewhat.
Agreed - 8 eps could have been 6 quite easily.

Fantastic tv though.

there was the shot of the black guy with dreads/braids in the background who looked over when Morocco said "OK, I'll tell you" etc

he was in the visiting room later as well

they just don't like people who talk to the cops I suppose

Rather like Broadchurch, that was also 8 episodes, rather drawn out and people loved it.

I know what you mean. After all, having a kid stolen doesn't have to be entirely bad news.

They can smile you know !

I don't mind the longness of the series but they have to be able to justify it with a killer ending.

Definite paedophile ring to be discovered next week; with the mechanic, the mayor, the hotel owners and Garrett all found to be in cahoots. Something along the lines of Garrett funding the town in exchange for the continued trade of children in the area - like a vile membership club of sorts.

Current thinking in the Doof house is that the hotel owner bloke will snuff it and we'll never know what really went on. The Mayor is covering for his brother.

In summary - I don't think we'll get a conclusion next week.

Given a good layered plot 10 72min episodes is just right.

True Detectives as an example a complex thriller of very high calibre

I agree - it's good to see it spread over more episodes than normal.

In places it has seemed a little slow, or what could be called "brooding"
