So are we to take it that the boy at the end in Russia was Oliver ? he did look at the picture and drew similar on the window, how the hell did it go from a phone call to the French cop, to wandering around Russia ???
Did I miss something ?
The way I read it was that no the boy in Russia wasn't Oliver. The writers wanted to portray that the dad just couldn't accept that his son was dead and consumed his llife forever (just glad I only watched the first and last one and not waste 8 weeks watching) unlike my wife who wished she didn't either. Another series that could have been a good three part series, just like the other series could have - The Fall....Did I miss something ?
Wow. I too thoght that the opening scene in Russia implied that Olly was alive - but it was clearly Nesbitt's character who drew the stick figure in the frost - his 'haunting' continuing.
It makes the point that even with the best answer he was going to get - Nesbitt was trapped in purgatory.
I thought that after the wedding ceremony he was going to go home and check out too, like Vincent. Clever to show it ending (or not ending for Dad) differently.
Having had the child murdered the way they did was as gruesome a concept as the RTC. Well pulled together.
Top series - made my blood run cold as a dad a couple of times.
Good actors too. Loved the potrayal of Julien. Made a nice step on from 'Bob' in Nikita.

Precisely that how you ''read it" I want an unequivocal answer not some bullst make your own mind up ending with a follow on trailer saying a new case is coming in a second series. Hopefully the writers will clear this up before the next series comes out or no one is going to watch it IMO. Second series to be a new case, first series ending too ambiguous in my opinion. left me feeling a little disappointed having invested 8 hours of my life in it. I enjoyed it but considering there's going to be a second series involving a new case I'd have hoped for more closure for the first.
Having said that, I imagine it reflects the way these cases usually end, or not end as the case may be, in real life sadly. They'll never really know and nor will we.

Missing is one of the best dramas I've seen in a long time on the BBC, was a little disappointed in the ending though. They've left it open for Ollie to be alive, pointless if they're not going go carry it on. And Nesbett, who lived a lot in France, learnt French, lived and breathed to find out any little detail about his son, was happy to go home before they found the mayor?

I'm inclined to agree...but with no confirmed body, it does leave you wondering.ajprice said:
Very good series, the ending in Russia was about Tony not accepting he's dead because there's no body. Julien told him in the car to move on, he didn't.
That's more or less how I feel too. However the trailer at the end was slightly confusing - was that a continuation of this series or a new unrelated story?I liked it. Nesbitt is doodling when he talks to the French detective on the phone after the wedding. Camera pans down to the drawing of a stickman. It hit me then that the drawing in the snow was done by James.
Kid at the end isn't Ollie, the Russian police state that Nesbitt has been hassling children in different towns. Thought it a great ending with a good bit of intrigue along the way and even if it didn't have naff all to do with the ending, it had loads to do with the characters involved after the boys disappearance.
Things are never linear and I think this series did a great job.
