What sort of ending would have satisfied everyone??
One where Oliver is alive somewhere?
One where the "Romanians" get their comeuppance and Oliver is given a decent burial??
I thought the ending reflected the utter desolation of what losing a child must be like - even though they now know whats happened to him they still have that huge void in their lives.
I'd be quite happy for Ollie to be dead. One where Oliver is alive somewhere?

Its the way that he was killed that to me seemed weak because it was written in a way to make other key plot points fit. ut being run over burtally, then involving the brother copper, then involving the dodgy Romanians who happen to be linked to dodgy goings on with hcildren - all a bit too convenient.
I woudl have been happier with Alain killing the boy with maybe something added on to make the death ambigious and keep the search on - the addition of the mayor and the romanians was a step too far IMO.

So why was the ex-detective guy in prison murdered?
he was about to give up information on the murder. possibly implicating the romanians who we know now were involved in the murder and disposal. during the meeting in the prison with the parents you saw a black guy in the background who was eaves dropping on the conversation. He is part of the caid del citie. therefore was looking to protect the gang.Mojooo said:

That was my view too, just seemed weak overall that it was just a drunk running him over after the camera view from over the road etc. would a fox really approach a crowd in a bar, I doubt it.Its the way that he was killed that to me seemed weak because it was written in a way to make other key plot points fit. ut being run over burtally, then involving the brother copper, then involving the dodgy Romanians who happen to be linked to dodgy goings on with hcildren - all a bit too convenient.

I thought it was a great finale, and I'm glad it wasn't a happy, lovey dovey ending. I think the main message at the end is that even though Tony has finally got the truth, he will never accept what happened. No matter what he is told, he will always try to find Ollie.
Emily accepted what happened, grieved and has started a new chapter in her life. I thought that after the wedding, Tony would still grieve for a bit, but he too, like Emily, would finally accept that his little boy is gone, and try move on with his life, meet a partner and get married.
The whole Ian Garrett and Vincent Bourg paedophile business was something to throw the viewers off track, get us to believe that Ollie was taken by Garrett, and forced into sex slavery or something.
James Nesbitt played his role brilliantly. At times I didn't care what happened to Ollie, I cared more about how Tony was going to grieve, and will, or could he ever recover.
I don't think Alain or Georges were bad men. Alain panicked and Georges got the Romanians to get rid of Ollie. He was covering for his brother, I don't really blame him. Alain probably wouldn't have survived prison. Yes, they should have fessed up, but it was one of those things both men would have regretted on their deathbeds.
I'm looking very forwards to series 2.

For the past few weeks, every time I am picking up or dropping off my kids at their mum's, there has been a young fox that has joined us on the door step.
Barely timid at all. Just saying.
I've never seen one approach people, I only usually see them when I am driving at night though so perhaps they are less timid than they used to be around people.Barely timid at all. Just saying.

If nothing else the cast list is top drawer.
Certainly dangling a few threads in that opener - shades of the Fritzl cellar etc - and just the three timelines to grasp...
Where have I seen the hairy journalist fella before? One of the drawbacks of these 'slow-burning' dramas is it gives me too much time to ponder where I last saw the actor - like the Red Cap who was selling Walter White chemicals (ironically for a German company) not too long ago...

Requires quite a bit of concentration this one, I watch a lot of telly whilst goofing around on PH, watching over the top of my iPad. I needed to check the haircuts to see which time frame we were in!
Daniel Ezra and Derek Riddell both from 'Undercover' making an appearance too I see.
Obvious gaping hole in the plot that they didn't do a DNA test on the returning 'Alice' to confirm it definitely was her
