What was the random hook with the French artist in the present all about?

That seemed very odd and out of place.

Probably because he hasn't learned the French words for no thanks yet.

Yes, there was a bit of a lingering camera shot on the kids faces on the wall.

Yep - I was horribly confused about the sequences on the boat until about 10 minutes after it ended when it suddenly dawned that they'd "done a Dallas" and I felt a little stupid biggrin

Yes, excellent episode last night.

One thing I'm still trying to get my head around:

So in the dream/imaginary boat sequences we saw: the nurse bloke, Ian Paedo and French Paedo Bourg.

Obviously we later found out that the nurse paedo was a real person at the contemporary time, as was French Paedo Bourg who was doing his rounds trying to make some kind of amends. Does the fact that we saw Ian Paedo in the dream sequence mean that he is alive and well (and visiting his wife in Oxford)?

I doubt it after the bashing he administered. I think that happy place was all in the mind and he never appears in the present.

I'm loving this TV show - it's just on the right side of being cryptic but not annoyingly what-the-hell-is-going-on

Mystic Muzzer predicts:

(I have no factual evidence to back this up - this is just a prediction)

The ginger boy that was in pictures, in Ian's wife's house and at the home she's in, are of her son.

That son is the English copper assigned as family liason, now in a relationship with Emily in present day (Jason Flemyng)

He has inherited paedo tendencies from his Dad (Ian) and took the boy

Could be totally wrong, but I'm going with it!

I though the picture of the the ginger child was their daughter who "went missing".

It was deliberately ambiguous I thought. I watched with my wife and I immediately thought it was a boy, she a girl (THE redhead girl from the portrait.)

Have they ever been in the same scene?

I can't think whether they have or not.

Don't think so. They've not mentioned each other either, to my knowledge.

I was pretty sure the picture was a boy, based on the picture Ian painted of Molly in his French apartment. Plus, it looked pretty boy-ish.

I've thought Flemyng's character was in on it from episode one, so I'm maybe biased. His character is prime meat for a plot twist. hehe

well Flemyng is quite a big name for what has been a minor role up to now...

Ok, here are some theories I've been considering:

1) French Paedo Bourg is Ian Paedo's son. Ian kept threatening his mother, indicating he had the power to do something to her. He could easily be talking about his own wife.

2) There is a massive police cover up/involvement. I'm pretty sure that the driver of the cleaning van we saw a few episodes ago was the same copper who was present when Ian Paedo met with Nesbitt in the cell this week.

3) The fractured ankle thing seems to have some meaning. Both Olly had one (as mentioned early on in the series when Nesbitt was being asked about his violent potential) and Lock Stock Copper's son James does his ankle in this week.

4) The artist piece was called Monique. Could she be Molly? She had some pretty fked up art on her walls.

5) This is totally off the reservation but could French Paedo Bourg actuall BE Molly? He's having some kind of treatment but it hasn't explicitly been said to be anti-paedo drugs. Could he be a sex changer?

6) Nothing from/on the journalist this week, nor the young copper who we know ends up in jail. Could they be the good guys?
