I'm looking forward to this.

I am sure it wont be the "best" film ever made but then neither were the first two. Judgement Day was pretty cheesy. At least with this one I don't Arnie takes himself that seriously and all the quoting of the other films is a bit of an in joke.

Indeed as entertainment it was brilliant, but artistically was it up to much? The acting is pretty bad in places. But that was kind of my point. These films are great in spite of their drawbacks.

Yeah, people consider it to be, the critics and that, it's usually lauded one of the great sci-fi films.

Went to see on Tuesday when it was re-released on the big screen. Was quite surprised at the special effects and some of the actimg. I certainly didn't remember it as bad as that!

Was it true that Arnolds English was not that good at at time and that's why he was given an almost non-speaking part?

I think it's more to do with his acting. Some wag once said AhNOld has played three perfect parts; a bodybuilder, a mindless barbarian and an emotionless robot. hehe

AhNOld was also staying in the USA from the 60's, I've heard that his accent varies depending on who he is with, in everyday chat he is quite American, but puts on his old accent for screen purposes, it's his, or was his USP.

Also Cameron understood that the less the baddie says, the more enigmatic menace he has, and AhNold turned down the role of Reece and opted for the robot.

edit,
adding this. biggrin

I read that when casting was being conducted, Arnie did indeed intend to audition for the part of Kyle Reece, he career was kicking off and he obviously wanted to paly the part of an action hero.

But when he turned up Cameron changed his mind and said you literally are a machine and convinced him to play the Terminator role.

Looking forward to this too. From the trailers I have a small hope that they're going to hit it right. There'll be some OTT nonsense and the 1st movie will always be the best, but I have a feeling it will out do 3 and 4 nicely.

Emilia Clarke though.... what a beauty. Again from the trailers I think she's just about "got" Linda Hamilton's Sarah Conner down.

EDIT: 7.3 on IMDB but the top few reviews don't paint a pretty picture.

Artistically I think it was up to a lot considering the budget and the tech at the time. The behind the scenes stuff about this movie is a really good watch. I especially like, at the end, where the terminator is trapped in the press and they go in close to see the eye fade out, that this was achieved with tin-foil like materials, a red lamp and someone blowing fag smoke at the camera.

Its full of stuff like that. They had to get quite creative.

Yeah thats right. The guy who they originally had in mind to be the terminator, ends up being one of the cops in the police HQ I think. Gutted! Though it likely would have never become what it has had that happened.

He is absolutely brilliant in that role, a lot of screen presence with very little dialogue. It might sound somewhat oxymoronic, but convincingly portraying that you have no emotions is as hard as protraying that you do. Robert Patrick did a good job in T2 despite the phyiscal difference; he would act more human but loved the way he'd lower his head and lock on to his target.

As for the new film, reviews are crap and from what I've heard the trailers have spoilt all the best bits. So I'm out.

I heard the Cameron wanted OJ Simpson to play the Terminator. Would have been quite a different film!
