For those still remotely interested in the new film, given the whole 'stepdad T-800' announcement, the new trailer is released on Thursday.
A teaser of the trailer has been released today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxVivBRs4joT1000?
The Time Machine in the future?
Nukes still going off (I loved that scene in T3!)
I read some posts on Reddit a few days back about the trailer.
Apparently a poster on there knows a 'guy' who works for the studio making the trailer. Not sure whether it is true, but I'll provide some of the details:
1)Apparently there is a scene that replicates the arrival of the Terminator from the film (Nice night for a walk, eh?). Using the same CGI from Salvation, they have recreated a younger Arnie. As he walks towards the punks, old Arnie appears behind him and aims a shotgun at him.
2)There is a scene where a T-1000 punches through a car windscreen and melts through the hole (similar to T2).
3)Supposed to be some future war stuff in there as well.
That is all I can remember reading at the minute, but I'll see if I can find the exact comment.

I think like most films these days I'll be waiting till I can see it for 'free' on the Netflix/Sky Movies type service bundles.
I'd hate to think I might actually pay to go see a film like this and it hurt my eyes just like every 2nd gen+ film.
Come to think of it, are there any films where they've got beyond two productions and they've remained as good as the first one/two?
The only one I can think of ever is Back to the Future

The only two that spring to mind are Lord of the Rings (which was all filmed in one hit anyway) and Star Wars. Both are down to personal preference though. The only one I can think of ever is Back to the Future

"Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" was pretty good, although "Wrath of Khan" was the best of that generation. I'd hate to think I might actually pay to go see a film like this and it hurt my eyes just like every 2nd gen+ film.

The Alien franchise was fairly reasonable two. I know that Alien3 (or Alien cubed, as it was always written) and Alien 4 had their detractors but I thought they had their good points too.
But, yes, it's a fair point - series very rarely maintain their quality.
As for 2nd Generation films (ie. remakes / reboots), they do very occasionally surpass the originals. Look at Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy.
OK, LOTR works because of them being a clump I suppose, rather than seeing how well the first does and then doing the next etc.
Star Wars ROTJ is actually a strong 3rd.
Alien 3, hmmm... it's good, but part of me thinks, just like T3 onwards, they should have stopped at the 2nd one. They were nicely finished off.
I even quite like T3, and Salvation, though they're not as good as the first two.
I just don't get what is wrong with some originality.
It'd be much more interesting to see the actual war against the machines proper. They can use the guy and gal from T3, and then everyone else is new cast members.

I'm quite a fan of T3 as well, I love that they had the balls to let the nukes off. I just don't get what is wrong with some originality.

Salvation had so much promise, especially with the original 'big twist' script which got canned and I'm sure if had been better recieved then it would have led into further movies where we could have seen the future war.

What was the proposed big twist in Salvation?
As far as I remember the original plan was that Connor would die and be replaced by a 'good' Terminator with his face, the Sam Worthington character in the final film, leaving the leader of the human resistance as a machine. Then they had script leaks and then Bale got involved and first insisted on playing Connor and then insisted on having Connor as a main character rather than Worthington. I think Connor was supposed to be on the shadows much more hence why they'd get away with replacing him.

Not sure what to make of that.
Can be viewed as genius or derivative with nothing new on show.
Very much so.Can be viewed as genius or derivative with nothing new on show.
That said I think part of the problems with the franchise has been trying to be too clever. T1 was great because it was just a simple chase movie; I think all they have to do is that, keep it simple and do it well. It doesn't need a clever story, it's Arnie storming the police station and laying waste with a gun in each hand, and that's it.
I'm sure I'll go see it anyway.
Looks a lot better than I expected and it's always interesting to see people play with the established storyline a bit.
From what's in the trailer it looks like they pull the same trick as they did in the pilot episode of TSCC to save effort on recreating 1984 - the film actually might almost recreate the same scene looking at it.
