I've said it before and I'll say it again. Do the John Connor story after Judgement Day but I mean a proper one, not the crap one we got in Salvation. John and Kyle were hardly in that while 3/4 of the movie was spent with some character no one gave a crap about, really why?
Set it in the post apocalyptic future, have John leading the human resistance from the ashes, meeting his future father and sending him on his one way trip. We've seen tantalizing snippets of it in most of the films which hint at great potential for a story set in that time. I think it's the story a lot of people want to see, I know I do.
