Just thinking how cool the Raptor / Motorbike scene would have been if it was a complete surprise. I hate trailers / marketing departments. There was very little in terms of the park that they didn't show in the trailers.

Agreed. The strategy from most studios these days seems to be to release 3 trailers, teasers, first trailer, then final. The new Terminator has gone from looking OK to a total cheese fest IMO and a potential big plot twist revealed. You could argue that it would have been good to keep the main plot hush hush too.

I can see why studios pump out multiple trailers (and trailers of trailers) to drum up fanfare and hype. Movies cost so much to make these days and I'm not surprised it's all become about how much of a return a movie rakes in or doesn't. Producing exclusive trailers comprising of completely new footage that's not in the main feature must also have a a larger cost than just splicing together existing footage.

All said and done, I really enjoyed Jurassic World. It managed to recapture some of the charm of the original and made it solely about a theme park disaster, rather than the sequels' research facilities that have a much narrower draw. I thought the product placement was done well, almost satirising the state of current theme parks (Disney is a prime example) where they're awash with Starbucks and massive sponsor logos everywhere.

Absolutely loved the hapless assistant who was picked up by a pteranodon(?), then dropped multiple times before finally being wolfed down by the massive water dinosaur. Felt very Hitchcockian in the way it faked out the audience.

I don't watch trailers as a rule (unless they are pretty much unavoidable at the cinema), however this scene was used on pretty much all promotion including on posters, game front covers etc.

I enjoyed that. The joys of a virtually empty cinema helped. The chemistry between man and raptor was rather well done and the whole thing felt rather soft focus compared to the original. For me it was the best of the sequels, but one thing that stood out as being really poor effects were the helicopter flying scenes. It's a 1/14 max scale model, of it it wasn't, it sure as hell looked like it.

Ah! I wondered where she went. I blinked and must of missed it.

Took my boys to see it and I actually enjoyed it even though it was a copy of the first film. They even did the flock of dinos running past cars in a field except we've seen it all before. The first time, 20 odd years ago, the audience gasped because things were passing in front of the live action biggrin

Was pretty gory to. Both my lads kept burying their heads in their hands or me biggrin which was actually nice to see considering how much violent stuff they must get bombarded with on telly and YouTube.

I don't see how they could do another park.
As they said in the film if they had to evacuate the island they could never re-open, throw in a few deaths and flocks of flying dinosaurs offing the guests would make it more difficult still-I thought they only ate fish?
They could explore the military applications which would potentially make a cool film but wouldn't have the same universal appeal IMO.
I thought they could have spent more time exploring the functioning park-it was cool.
Yea, he pterosaur scene was too silly.
There was a fantastic one-liner on Mock the Week about Jurassic World, 'how come they're open again, who keeps giving these guys public liability insurance?!' (paraphrase) rofl

My view of the film...wow, I loved it. Very much caught the magic of the first, but with stronger action leads, and a stronger secondary bad-ingen plot.
The pterosaur scene was st, but one can see why they put it in, you can't have real mass panic with a single mental dino. I thnk the reveals were well telegraphed and plotted. And I was pleased with myself as I figured them out before the stuff happened.
A definite strong film and my pick of blockbuster of the summer thus far.
Don't really see a sequel hgappening. Which is a shame for some reasons, I wanna see more of Pratt's character and it's a shame that, Pile died.

The beginning felt interesting - very well shot in the original spirit of Spielberg (the original theme also helped). Nice visual references to the original.
Then I got bored and waited only for the raptor pack. All this predator changing appearance thing.
Then the raptor pack sequence was mediocre.
Then I started counting plotholes, which appear every odd minute.
Then all this OTT dino thing (which had already been made in the third part) at the end felt like it was guest-directed my Michael Bay.

I'd give it 6/10 just for the sake of the old time, but I'm not sold. It's like one of the scriptwriters had a brilliant idea of some trained raptors running along motorcycle, and then watched Transformer movies for inspiration together with Pratt, who was terrible. And his chemistry with the redhead was terrible. Big budget little thing.

I was a critic before I'd even went to see it. I thought it would Suck like so many remakes. I was expecting die hard 4 bad.

Wow it was awesome. I was too young to see the original but saw the follow ups at the cinema and they were st.

If you just go with the flow, ignore any plot holes, I mean they are creating dinosaurs for fk sake, you won't leave disssapointed.

It was utterly gruesome. I'll have nightmares about some of the scenes. That is not a 12. I won't spoil it but mass killings, a guy on a triumph racing raptors and a lot of tributes to the original. Epic.

It was the wee bits like filling in for the creative licence the film had before, portraying the dinosaurs as bigger or smaller or that could spit venom etc now explained.

Just go and see it. You might not enjoy it as much as me but it's a really pleasant way to spend a couple of hours and worth the money. 8/10.

I'd go again. I can't really talk about the scenes as I don't want to spoil it but my god they were gruesome.

Enjoyed it, until the end, when my jaw dropped as apparently everything was suddenly okay, despite leaving everyone in a situation which should have been as bad or worse as the middle of the first film

You see, T-rex and raptor saw Cannabis Rex became tyrant, so they both turned commies.

It is far more gory/scary than a 12A ought to be, my lad is 8 and had been counting down the days to see it for months and tbh he found some scenes absolutely terrifying to the point that we agreed if there was one more really scary bit we'd leave. The odd thing is he thought Jaws was 'lame' including the head falling out of the boat.

Other than that it is by far the best JP sequel. Whar really surprised me was how quickly they got on with it and didn't waste your time with suspense or hide the monster, like they'd listened to the criticisms of Godzilla 2014.
I agree, I thought it was great that they just cracked on with it. Hide-the-monster is so overdone by now that it isn't scary anymore, just irritating. Showing it and being able to see WHY it was scary was much more interesting.

References to the original were very well done I feel - lots of little nostalgic nods for the audience, but done in such a way that it felt like it was a real place, that was really derived from the original park. Things like the Gallimimus flock, and the red flares to attract the T. rex's attention and so on.

Apparently the product placement stuff (Samsung Innovation Centre et al) was put in at the writers/directors request deliberately to satirise modern theme parks, not forced in by the studio smile

I went ready for a massive Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull style mega disappointment (i.e. poor sequel of a classic after a long gap) but I thought JW was great! Solidly entertaining for more or less the whole thing. Could have been so much worse.

Yep the CGI wasn't as amazing as the original and the 3D was a waste of time as usual, they still just look like individual 2D cardboard cutouts moving around at different depths.

Loads of openings left for further sequels I thought.

I really was expecting the worst before seeing this, but I'm glad to say it's far better than the other two sequels. The first film is still one of my all time favourites, and I thought the dinosaurs in that were far more 'real' than the CGI ones in Jurassic World. My favourite bits were all the nostalgia pieces - the old visitor centre, the old cars, the goggles. Overall, not a bad film at all. Still not sure about the idea of 'Special Forces' raptors wearing night vision headsets though...
