Approaching $600m now, still hanging in there quite nicely considering the negativity.

Went to see it on Friday, enjoyed it smile

I would have been happy to have sat there for an extra 30 minutes or so for some additional back story and some extra bad guy plotting but overall far from being a bad film I reckon!

Sequel if they can get it should be good!

I think there is a lot of forced goodwill towards it, people don't wanna see DC fail, and even a mediocre film will do well. The annoying thing with Suicide Squad is that a decent film can be seen between the edits.

As opposed to the Ghostbusters thing.

I finally got around to seeing this last night. As a visual feast it is amazing, especially as I saw it at a huge IMAX cinema. Good action, good characters.

To me what lets it down is the dialogue. The interaction between the characters was stilted and should have been much funnier / more interesting

Oh dear.

That was not a good film... I'm not even that hard to please!

I didn't read the reviews before I went, I was actually sorta glad to see many people felt the same.

Will Smith was fine as ever, Harley was OK; not much else worked at all.

OTOH, my daughter, who is just about rating age appropriate but still 95% lacking in critical facility, enjoyed it smile

I am a big fan of DC, especially Batman; less so of Marvel, but Marvel is running rings around them on film, especially with the "side" movies - Guardians, Deadpool.

I stopped watching after half an hour. Just couldn't be bothered with it any more.

Over hyped (but, aren't they all)

Have to wonder why some of the characters were there and what 'skills' they offered

The one true metahuman seemed to add some hope to the movie.... but then all dwindled to nothing

Overall it was a solid 6/10 for me.

Went to see it last night.

I enjoyed it for the most part, but as many have already mentioned it felt a bit chopped up.

When I saw it was a 15 cert I expected it to be much darker than it was.

Reading up on what appears to have been cut out I expect there to be an R rated ultimate directors cut version.

Will Smith was far too nice bad guy for my liking.

They really should have made this an 18 and gone to town with the violence.

I didn't realise we had a dedicated thread on this. Also saw it yesterday and the one feeling I came out with was that it had been shredded in the editing room. Glad to see that might actually be the case and we might get a proper version.

Agree on the Will Smith thing, I like him but he was the wrong choice. Needed someone more violent and weird. The rest of the cast were very well selected though.

I don't think they could decide if they wanted to aim it at adults or kids and tried to hit somewhere in the middle but it didn't really work.

It's actually meant to be child friendly film and in the US they certified it a PG-13 but for some reason the BBFC decided it's a 15.

Personally I liked the film but from all the interviews and stuff coming out about the original edit and delected scenes; it sounds like the warner brothers executives pretty much ruined an amazing film and that's all due to the negative BVS reviews and reception.

Having a read on IMDB, it seems they made heavy edits and cut the film to the point that it change the whole tone of the film.

Apparently, changes include:

  • Boomerang was supposed to have quite a bit of racist and sexist lines
  • Joker was supposed to have a lot more screentime
  • Harley and Joker were supposed to have a very abusive relationship. The scene were Harley falls out of the chopper when rescued by Joker was originally supposed to have them arguing and Joker pushing her out in rage
  • Slipknot (the guy who was killed near the start) was supposed to have a backstory where he is a serial rapist
  • There was a lot more backstory to Killer Croc
A lot of these changes boil down to the fact that Ayer was being put under massive pressure to heavily edit the film to remove most of the darker undertones due to critism of BvS, but still had to hit the release date.

Might explain why it feels a bit rushed to be honest; although I don't understand this whole thing about BvS being too dark and gritty, I felt it suited the film perfectly and would have worked for Suicide Squad as well.

Echo the point above though, I'm hoping they do a proper Ultimate Cut like BvS.
Was bvs criticised because dark or because just a bit st

It'll probably be a studio screw job, like all the other DCU films.
