As I said on the "films" thread, whilst watching it, I enjoyed it a lot. I enjoyed MoS and BvS a lot also.
Having read reviews, watched youtube exposes and read other people's thoughts I find my eyes opened to the negatives and shortfalls.
I'm glad its this way round!
That said, having then waited for the Ultimate editions of these films on BR, I still think they're pretty damn good.
Yes MoS final fight scene is laborious
Yes BvS has ALOT going on
and yes SS (so far) also appears as if the rug has been pulled from under it, ruining what should/could (and still might be) a really good dark comic book romp....
plus I'm hoping as the film universe expands, each character will develop and get their moment to be understood.
I mean it makes sense really the way Marvel have done it, explaining and THEN joining them... maybe DC have decided to do the opposite just to distance themselves?

I don't really care, as long as I enjoy the hype and an the film before reading all the stuff that dissects and unravels what should be just brain out fun.

Whilst it wasn't fantastic, I enjoyed it, I enjoyed Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman too; they could have been better, they could have been a lot worse.

I think watching it as a film as opposed to knowing all the DC in's and out's; I don't really know anything about the comics and how things "should" be, helps my enjoyment as I am unable to pick holes in these films due to their history.

I wasn't too keen on the Joker, I felt that Leto was trying to hard to ape Heath Ledger; although am I just seeing it as I don't think anyone can beat Ledger's Joker so any further ones would be a disappointment.

The attempt at one liners was dire; mainly Killer Croc, Margot Robbie was superb as was Will Smith.

The budget is quoted at anywhere between £175m - £250m. With the reshoots I'd guess the higher figure is probably right, but for the sake of argument let's say it cost £200m.
Marketing budget can be anywhere between 50-150% of budget. Based on the amount of TV spots etc it's probably closer to the higher figure as well, but again to be conservative say it's 100%.

That means the movie will need to clear a minimum of £400m before its makes a penny. Couple that to the fact it probably won't score a release in China for a number of political reasons and the film looks like it's in trouble.
If it's making money, it will come to China. It will just have some "edits" if there's anything sensitive, and maybe an additional scene out of the blue featuring a Chinese actor who isn't in the Hollywood cut and some blatantly placed local consumer product hehe I'm dead serious by the way, I've sat through the Chinese cut of Ironman where the Chinese doctor saves Tony Stark's life and a few other films and you can tell which bits are Chinese-centric. Ironically the Chinese cinema goers don't like "Chinafied" Hollywood films unless it's genuinely supposed to be in there..
I think it will take more than a few cuts

Did Bob Downy film extra scenes? Or is it crappy/ropey?
The Chinese wonder surgeon saves Tony Stark before Ironman takes off from Beijing surrounded by a bunch of kids IIRC.

Strange and not sure what it was trying to do or be but at least it kept my attention.

Re. joker. I thought he would have featured more. Heath Ledger was a hard act to follow but they didnt give leto a chance.
You get it's basically the Dirty Dozen tho?

It's not about the Joker, he's just an ancillary character; not part of the SS

As I mentioned on the 'films I saw' thread I really enjoyed this. No it isn't perfect, it is quite clunky in places. Deadshotwill and Harley have a load more back-story than the rest, but Margot IS Harley Q. I would have enjoyed seeing a Diablo only film TBH as that character is (IMO) possibly one of the more interesting.

It has to be said that it is (IMO) a LOT better than Man of Steel

Deffo up for seeing if there is an 'ultimate edition' release.

Despite my love the Dark Knight and Bales Batman, on recent rewatching the scenes of Batman fighting across the whole trilogy really don't stand up. BVS, for all its flaws, shows Batman fighting and glories in the spectacle of it. I am surprised how well SS had done. I saw Star Trek earlier and people were still there is numbers for SS.

On another note Chris Pine is really good in everything I've seen him in. Amazed he accepted what's likely to be a supporting role in Wonder Woman. I had him as a potential Green Lantern moving forward.

It's still tracking well in the US (in fact it's now taking in more daily than BvS was at the same stage, and getting higher mid-week takings than even Civil War and Avengers) so I don't think they will have any problems long term. They released in August knowing how such movies perform at that time of year historically (and it's smashing those records), so I can't imagine it's not at least performing above their estimates.

The agreements in place with global distributors, streaming etc these days add huge sums to the profitability of movies. I know it's an entirely different scale but it's the only examples I know that are discussed openly, Kevin Smith movies (which have been generally bombing at the box office pretty much since Clerks) have nearly all been in clear, genuine profit before they've even had a single public screening because of the various distribution deals in place.

It wasn't very interesting and added nothing, like a lot of the edits. biggrin

The more I think about the more I wonder just how much the film has been meddled with from the initial vision. Are we going to get yet another Ultimate Edition? DC/WB really need to figure out what they're trying to achieve.

The Jared Leto interview on the Radio 5 podcast was interesting, he basically said he didn't know what the final film would be (he hadn't seen it yet) but that he was aware that loads of his stuff with Robbie had been cut.

Amazon video pre order has already started, with a special offer together with Gotham https://www.amazon.co.uk/Suicide-Squad-Will-Smith/...

Don't think I've seen a pre order before for a film that's still in the cinema.
