I was so hyped by this a few months ago, and now....not so much.
I feel it's been to overdone with the trailers and everything, and whilst I don't know what happens, I just don't feel that bothered.
This is exactly how I feel. It seems like its had such a long time coming since the trailer that I have simply lost interest now.I feel it's been to overdone with the trailers and everything, and whilst I don't know what happens, I just don't feel that bothered.
Will probably watch it when its released on itunes or something.

9.9 on imdb
Is it really that good?
Marc Bernardin is usually on the pulse, he has seen it, hasn't said much but has eluded to it being very solid, and actually fun (i.e. much closer to the Marvel benchmark rather than BvS).Is it really that good?
We will know for sure tomorrow, anyhow. Embargo gets lifted.

Hmmm.
Some initial screening reviews starting to emerge from regular punters on r/movies and they are "tepid" shall we say...
They are saying the acting is fantastic but some some characters are underdeveloped and the plot makes no sense at all.
There have been, 'reshoots'...Some initial screening reviews starting to emerge from regular punters on r/movies and they are "tepid" shall we say...

Have to say though, from what I have seen of Joker...I like it...and I was complaining because I feel Joker is the most overused and over-exposed character that they keep dredging up, rebooting and copying.

Seems to be a comman theme, its more important to get landmark images in or popculture refences without the plot...which is a shame. Some initial screening reviews starting to emerge from regular punters on r/movies and they are "tepid" shall we say...

I enjoyed BvS (I know, I know, i'm in the minority) but that is the weakest point in my mind, the plot just being there - not really engaging. Not sure how to express this feeling, but its like they grab a few comic stills that look very cool without reading the story then find the quickest way to link these stills.
Anyone understand what i'm getting at? Or is it complete waffle?
Anway, looking forward to this just the same!

But yes, they're treating the public as having a seriously short attention span (maybe rightly?) and so fixate on iconic imagery/effects and one liners that'll stay with you...
For MoS I still focus on the score and the character development flashbacks though, rather than the titanic-whoops-there-goes-another-skyscraper stuff.
Still very keen to see Suicide Squad though, I'm predicting Margot's backside imagery will stay with me for a while too... even if it takes me finding a poster of it and sticking it up.....anyway...I'm looking forward to it.
Mark Kermode's podcast called "the business of film" (something like that anyway), talks at length about the promotion process these days. It's all about seeding images into the lead-up to get the biggest opening weekend possible. The goal is to turn the arrival of a movie into a cultural event that everyone feels they have to be the first to see; and to be seen to be seeing it in their social media. Long term cinema performance doesn't matter any more because there's an increasingly short time period between video on demand and bluray/dvd release - which are now both massive revenue streams.
So, as we sit here and debate and engage with a movie that none of us have seen yet, I guess you'd have to say that this marketing strategy works. No wonder little things - like plot - get missed along the way.

Completely, when people look at me as if I am crazy when I say I enjoyed MoS the image in their head must be the [b]titanic-whoops-there-goes-another-skyscraper[\b] stuff. Where as I enjoyed the different take on the origin, and I really liked the soundtrack

Oh yeah! Fingers crossed!Very sad. These 'event' films are effectively hollow, and will be forgotten as time wanes. Of course, they'll just get rebooted as ever more hollow versions of themselves. They're not all like that, but most.
Thank goodness for stuff like SUndance and people at the bottom of the ladder making the good stuff...also thank goodness for HBO/BBC and now, Netflix and the like.

Listening to some gumpf on Radio 4 this morning about the dumbing down and iconography of modern films, it seems the other direction they're taking is that because China is the new holy grail for revenue, Hollywood needs to prevent ostracising them by reducing the script(!)...and maximise the visual impact.
Jason Bourne, for example, says only 288 words in the entire (new)film (45 lines or something)....and you only have to punish yourself and watch the new Independence movie to see how Chinese faces and script are getting involved to help the marketing.
Quite interesting in a way...
