Saw it on some random Freeview channel the other weekend. Remembered what really scared me: the title sequence, with some atonal choral music over the top of it.

The only truly scary thing about it these days is the quality of the acting! smile

When I was a nipper, a family Mononpoly game inevitably ran into the late hours. Psycho was on the TV in the background, and the shower scene terrified me. I couldn't, or daren't sleep that night.

Earliest memories of being scared was Dr Who, Terror of the Zygons and Space 1999 Episodes; Dragon's Domain, Troubled Spirit and Force of Life.

First movie scare memories were The House that Dripped Blood and An American Werewolf in London.

The only film or tv show that still to this day gives me the shivers is Salem's Lot, from the tapping on the window, jumping in the grave, when the vampires attack in the hospital and are fought off with big ice lolly stick crosses, to the hideous appearance of the mysterious Mr Barlow, that show does a fine job of scaring me to this day.

The original "the Thing" it didn't scare me so much as horrify me. still love the work that went into the special effects back then.

One scene in The Invasion of the Body Snatchers scared me though. Right at the end when the last lady alive sees what she thinks is the last bloke alive, he turns to her when she reveals herself to be human to him and he just turns and starts the awful screaming while looking at pointing at her. I think its also the realisation the humankind has been wiped out and replaced completely as well.

My first date when 13 and he took me to his mates house and they were all watching the Exorcist. I was sitting there trying to be cool when I was utterly terrified out of my brain.

Still stupidly afraid of scary films several decades later.

this gave me some sleepless nights, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060548/?ref_=fn_al_tt...

at the time , my parents were living apart (work not problems) and because my mum helped her family in the shop they owned, we often got left to watch what we like. my mum wasn't happy when she saw what had been on. i was only about 8.

oh and Dr Who, Quatermass and the pit was a good call.

As someone else mentioned, the original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and I was about 22! It was probably just the rawness of it. The bit where he picked the girl up and dropped her onto the meat hook!!

More recently 'Signs' with Joaquin Phoenix scared me. Just the right amount of suspense and creep factor. Like when the aliens were running around the roofs, trying to get into the house.
It did sound a bit light Pingu was up there though!

A one episode kids TV show on the BBC.

I think the kids had skipped school and when they got home the entire place was evacuated because the nuke power station was going into melt down.

And something about a bot with a X on the back of it because his dad couldn't read.

Whatever it was I remember being terrified almost all the way through...

Edit: Ah ha. It was this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Hour_to_Zero

Yes, BBC4 has been showing two episodes on a Sunday night for the last few weeks - finished last Sunday.

I think it was The Monsters' Club. There was a werewolfy/vampirey type man who could either whistle or howl and it would cause damage to things. I think a cat was after his pigeons so he whistled and the cat melted.
Then a woman betrays him so he whistles her, when her bit on the side goes to her house to meet her she is all disfigured, she's still up for it but he isn't when he sees her! It's actually probably really st but as a young child it gave me nightmares.

That's what I was going to post, the John Carpenter film. Piano theme tune still sends shivers!

Christ yes! (the colour remake of course) - the foreboding and spooky happenings in the underground station, I don't think I've seen anything to beat it for sheer dread. Possibly The Omen comes close.
Yep, that was the first film that I genuinely was spooked by - don't know why, but the whole atmosphere and build up in the underground and derelict house was really well done. Still gives me creeps when I watch it now.

Oh and these, when I were a nipper - it was on BBC2 at six o clock in the evening, they had a run of Sci Fi B movies. As monsters go its pretty ropey, but the trapped in a tube and its going to get me bit was a worry as an 8 year old.

It.

Really ridiculous when I watch it now, but at the time...

If I ever met Tim Curry I'd punch him in the face.

I was going to mention this, but for the life of me, I couldn't remember what the episode was called!

I remember that monster, it pulled you into it spat out your skeleton! yikes
