Top Gear tested the F150 years ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0klZpwlgwOw

they weren't so happy with it then.

Must of been a while back as the switchgear and lights looked the same as my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, which shared it's chassis with the F150.

Didn't realise that they made them in RHD though.

I'm amazed how many peoples tastes are influenced by Top Gear.

Each week, some tard will say, "did you see this on Top Gear id love one of them" having never heard of them in their nelly puff".

In the end they will buy something like a Astra diesel.

Its a bit like when I watch a cooking programme, Oh look at that, it looks great I'd try that, 4 hours later im having Turkey dinosaurs for tea.

To be fair, they do see an Astra (albeit petrol) on Top Gear every week...

they didn't - it was a moody conversion. Besides which most F150's are running about with bed-covers on wink

Best review ever silly

It's stuff like this that gets promoted around the web as gospel when it's on Top Gear.

"It's too big" - Well yes it is bigger than a Micra but no bigger than a Range Rover or Transit.

"Interior is rubbish" - Mine's not but that one certainly was with it's bad conversion to RHD.
I wonder if JC knew that or did it fit the stereotype too well for the piece. scratchchin

"Ladder chassis & leaf springs" - Er, yes but it is a pick-up that you can put half a ton in the back. Never going to ride as well as a 5 link Merc but it isn't one.
Never based on the 2000 Mercury chassis, more like something from the 50's biggrin

'Crap off road" - Most 2wd stuff is when it gets tough. I suppose they could have tested the 4wd but it wouldn't have been as much fun.

"Bed is not secure" - That's right, nobody ever fits a lockable cover biggrin

For what they cost and what they are designed for, they are value for money.

The point us though, if they're that great for the UK market, why dont ford sell them here and sell the ranger instead?

I should imagine that the market for them would have been and is extremely small.

Not enough sales to justify properly engineering a RHD conversion and most users wouldn't put up with the fuel consumption from the 5.4 engine.

Ford has the diesel Transit for Europe which is all you need for a business and in that scenario, does the same job.

Surely an F150 would sell well in Australia?

There is a slight difference in really wanting a vehicle but not buying it (because most folk will probably never be able to afford one), and popping down to the butchers to grab a joint of beef for dinner.

Dear god I wasn't using it as an actual example it was an attempt at humour.

UK import duty on pickups is 22% and then you have 20% VAT on top (the VAT, businesses can claim back).

I wonder if the episodes will age as well as the older ones.

I've watched two episodes back to back, the season final where Clarkson paid homage to the Jaguar F-Type, this was a brilliant episode. And the season opener where they took the Lambo, Aston & Ferrari to Romania in search of the worlds best road, I was in absolute awe of how brilliant the episode is. I do wonder, when it was first shown what would be the response on PH!

Sadly not. Anything under 4.5 Tonne and 30 years old is illegal as a LHD in Australia.

They've got the UK spec RHD Ranger & Transit and for a mental hoon, the mad turbo Ute.
