Perhaps. But given that VAG has so many brands in their stable, you've have thought that this role could have been more than adequately filled by the Audi R8, leaving Lamborghini to be a rather more edgy and outrageous, surely?

What I don't understand is the statement that Lamborghini is playing it safe. Sure they've built cars that are faster more reliable but from what I can see the style from old to new is still as edgy!

You can definitely see the lineage from the Miura through Countach etc too.

Maybe Hammond would be happy with a massive Countach style rear wing. They should put one on the options list, could probably charge £15k+ for it.

That's the exact point Hammond was making, in his he doesn't believe it should be priced well against its rivals, decent sized and usable. It should be Lamborghini crazy!

I think the Huracan is a tremendous car, but I can completely understand where he is coming from.

The Gallardo was decent price, size and was usable though, so why not moan about the Gallardo back then?

They probably didn't realise how good it was. Notice they pointed out the sales figures for the Gallardo and made the point that it was made to make sales. I thought his point was pretty well explained during the show tbh confused

Hammond said it was made to sell, wtf does that mean. It's better in every way that I can see and the design is just as extreme.
I can only assume he desires a bit of old fashioned italian unreliability.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to own one and I think it looks brilliant. I do understand his point though, he's saying its more VW and less Lamborghini (his interpretations or what these brands mean anyway) Taking this further you could say selling lots reduces the exclusivity of the car, making it less desirable to the people that would generally buy a Lamborghini.

I understand their PoV re the Huracan, but couldn't they have said much the same about the Gallardo? I don't think there's much in it looks-wise between the two. Would be interesting to see how grip compares with the Ferrari 458 & McLaren.
Great point about the new speed cameras and the broken Tory promises. Pity more wasn't made of this.
Good start to the new series IMHO. The whole show is a bit "Top Gear by numbers" these days, but still one of the best programs around.

Edit: Forgot to mention - Stig at the end of the race biggrin

In my opinion the Gallardo only became good lucking when it got its facelifted front end, the Huracan looks epic right away!

Aren't supercars about performance because the Lambo was super fast. I also thought it looked great lets face it cars have very similar features these days.

That's an interesting question and possibly worthy of a thread in its own right.

I think Hammond had a very fair point - if a performance car only comes alive on a private airfield, then has it missed the point? It was a criticism levelled at the McLaren 12C as well. It's also why we're seeing cars like the GT86.

I often get more of a day-to-day hoot out of my little Suzuki Swift Sport than my TVR Sagaris, despite the Swift having less than a third of the power but weighing around the same.

I understand the comment about the Audi input but all these supercars are so tricked out with computers how many are "real drivers" cars.

Which is the point Hammond was making, surely? That a supercar has to be more than just performance; it has to make your knees go wobbly just at the thought of driving it. It has to be thrilling even when pootling.

Interestingly, there was a recent interview with Rowan Atkinson saying that this is exactly how he feels about his McLaren F1 and what modern machinery has lost sight of.

Gallardo is the baby Lambo so it would have to follow the Urraco and Jalpa, etc; Murcialgo and Aventador follows on from Countach and you can definitely see the lineage.

Looks more like the Diablo - so does Gallardo. Perhaps its deliberate since the Diablo had Audi input.

Also worth remembering the Gallardo was initially regarded as safe and boring before the upgrades.

Anybody notice the F*ing, beep, beep, beeping, beep beeper language that springs from the mouths of babes ie when the car pulled out on Hammond and a few other times too.

I can melt a nun's ears with chosen words but is this really the best way that TG is trying to maintain its blokey credentials ?

I thought it was just a genuine reaction.

It actually opened my eyes to why cyclists shout their mouths off at car drivers. Prime example the recent video of the cyclist being punched by the van driver.

I see what you're saying but for me the best looking Lambo of late was the original Murcielago before they started adding extra spoilers/wings etc for the revised editions.

agree. i think Hammond is known as being somewhat of a 'angry little man' (Clarkson has mimiced this in the past). i could imagine St Petersburg bieng somewhat shocking for a cyclist.....

don't agree with Hammond on the Audi's...sorry, Lambo's being design. i think it's pretty on-the-money....though I'm not quite convinced by the rear....
