It's the triumph of hope over experience, and the fact that I can record it and skip over the bits I don't want to watch, like yet another race between different vehicles (yes, we know, hovercraft don't steer very well), another uninteresting SIARPC, and another bloody supercar going sideways. It's not hatred, more disappointment that they can't be arsed to do anything but repeat the formula and pocket the cheques.

Surely it's a car program or have I missed something. Surely most of the viewers want a little detail on the tested cars

tterThought it was a decent first episode. They're not going to show the best stuff straight away. Hammonds fall looked pretty nasty. The Huracan in the flesh is a great looking car, but for me doesn't stir the soul as much as the Gallardo. Seriously quick lap time though.

Yes it does sound weird I hope alcohol was involved otherwise there is no excuse.He seemed very happy with the Ducks.
Maybe the real Stig was left behind at the track and that was a stand in Stig as no driving was needed.
I'd get rid of the star in a reasonably priced car. Get a proper driver in too test the cars for longer and who is allowed to speak!. Lets have some specials that are at least tenuously linked to cars and motorsport, not racing trains or pushbikes which is absolute crap. Why can't they just drive some of the best roads in the world in some of the greatest cars, similar to the Italian special where they drove The Aventador, Noble and McLaren.
Then again they're making a fortune so it won't change.

When there is no driving involved they use a mime artist. Maybe they borrowed a local Russian one and he just wasn't as good?JonRB said:

That certainly makes a lot of sense. I always assumed that Stig (the character) was different to Stig (the driver) but a Mime Artist had not occurred to me.

What I thought came across in that was how they all genuinely love cars, not just expensive supercars. For all they are television presenters and 'celebrities' they can still have an endless unscripted argument about the subjective merits of various old impractical cars, that to me is real car enthusiasm. Still I enjoy it
For me Top Gear is a show about the joy that can be had from cars rather than the cars themselves so much and it does that rather well. 'Proper' car journalism is rather dull really, Top Gear shows that what you do with the cars is far more important than the car itself. It also brings an interest in cars to those who might otherwise have none which can only be a good thing.

its supposed to be about 3 middle aged men having fun in cars and that's what I enjoy. It is a fun hours TV for me and compared to all the other crap on TV its brilliant.
