For somebody who presents themselves as a 'Financial Director' you also don't seem to understand that you don't pay Capital Gains tax on classic car profits.Welshbeef said:

Let's be fair, TG has had some pretty "cringeworthy" moments and same wooden scripting. They persisted with the "cool wall" joke where Hammond would move stuff for years after it was past its sell by date and some episodes are total dross. Everything needs time to settle in but I doubt they'll get the chance.
Must admit I rarely watch TG now. The "ha ha we're so funny" smugness isn't my cup of tea. 2 sMoKiN bArReLs said:
but knowing cars are exempt from CGT is a bit of a basic
Given companies don't buy classic carsv(all the ones I have worked for ) nope. Seems your trying to back up now you've made a wrong assumption.
Note I'd forgotten about the CGT free for individuals assuming you don't flip over a certain number each year in which case you are a trader by default.

Totally different show. TG is an entertainment show vaguely based around cars these days.
Trouble is, I think the whole classic car thing you either get or you don't. Must be hard to build a mainstream tv show around a niche interest. It would be like trying to build a show around model train collecting or something - "how do you make a niche interest of more interest to the casual channel hopper?". Not sure Jodie is the answer, nor are the wooden links and gimmicky "pretend car computer" thing (surely only 10 year old boys believe that's real!).
Plenty of classic car shows on Discovery that manage to cover the topic well and not be cringeworthy though, the whole presenting side of this is awful. Jodie Kidd talks like she's trying to get me to ring her at £2 a minute to hear her talk about classic cars in a slightly filthy manner. Quentin Wilson is just his usually slightly smug self, he always comes across as a top bloke off camera, when he's in front of one he becomes Mr Burns.

Again you're missing the point. Discovery Channel you would expect it to be more in depth and the audience will expect it whereas Ch5 caters to a larger audience spectrum.entropy said:

But that doesn't excuse crap presenting and loads if unnecessary cheese, such as the on screen 'touch pad' thing that's at best crap. RichB said:

Sorry, maybe it's the random punctuation but I don't get your point. What are you getting at?2)Willson highlighting 205GTI 1.9 investment potential- "0-60 IN 6.9" - nope @ 7.5 was quickest.
