I Zombie - how to play a zombie extra?

Everyone has thier dreams - right?
Well the one for my brother and I is to play a zombie in an actual film. We'd do it for no pay and we aren't expecting a Walking Dead springboard to stardom - We just want to shuffle around in the background and 'be zombies'
We would even shell out of our own pockets for the union membership just to do it - is there a Z list to draw from?
I know there are websites set up for the purpose - but these don't seem active (or active enough) to be genuine.
In sum - is there a way we can nominate ourselves to be zombies in an indie - or mainstream flick?
Or is it luck of the drawer for already registered 'extras'?

Hmm - interesting - shame the 2.8 hours later have consumed all the London dates and are now some distance off :/
Ideally yes it would be on screen - not because I feel like I should be recognised for my talent - but it would be fun to have a DVD with me as an uncredited extra. It would also be interesting to be part of - but don't get me wrong - we'd take it seriously!
We were both champing at the bit to help with the film Worst Case Scenario https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYTYqaewAQ8 but funding was long ago pulled. I suppose its a case of keep on looking. I wonder if theres some indie producers forum where they would be glad of willing extras?
