Watching this now, I don't know what to make of this guy. Is he brave, stupid, naive, curious...? It's certainly an eye opener.

Great yarn, recommend. Bike must be in the hunting for best supporting role nominee for all the abuse it put up with. Nicely matter-of-fact, the warzone / sugar spill juxtaposition was the tops.

Finally got round to watching this yesterday. What a load of naive, spoilt, over-protected self-indulgent tripe.

That part near the end when he was asked to shoot the member of the Gadaffi army but clearly tried to avoid doing so, then psycho-analysed himself that he almost shot someone.... WTF did he think he was going for? A gap year holiday? And WTF did he think the "revolutionaries" would be doing? A peaceful protest? Cretin.

And as for his girlfriend... rolleyes

I watched this the other night - or tried. Seemed like a load of overindulgent guff so I actually switched it off.

i personally reckoned he couldn't just admit he had missed on purpose, he had up to that point spent his life recreating an action movie and then it got real, you can see even with the gun he had, they've all got fked up ak47s and he's gone and bought himself what looked like an FN P90 and had adopted the 'outfit' of US special forces, he's a dreamer but i'd still love to have done what he did.

It's the title that got me. Started out as a reasonable bike travelogue, then simply dissolved in to matey boy's action hero daydream.

Not sure if you're already aware, but it's a (reasonably apt) play on The Motorcycle Diaries.

Yeah I got that, but was (perhaps naively) expecting more of the motorcycle and less of the diaries, especially after the first few shots of him taking delivery of his bike, shipping it to Europe then hitting the road in Morocco.

'The Motorcycle Diaries' also doesn't contain much motorcycling
