Reed Richards is supposed to be a mature, married man. The human torch is supposed to be his brother-in-law. I'll pass on this.

Would any of that really matter if it was a decent film? Sticking closely to the source material has never been any guarantee of quality.

I went to see this yesterday morning. Whilst it isn't great its not the train wreck many suggest.(how many have actually seen it I wonder).
Basically it feels like two different films merged together. A promising first half and poor second. Some very poor production design doesn't help things either. I would suggest that it provides a similar level of enjoyment to the last films, but has a very different film.
Note to Fox. The idea of 4 people getting very different powers from the same phenomenon is preposterous. Don't bother coming up with a convoluted explanation. When you reboot this in 3 years (to stop the rights reverting to Marvel) Don't do an origin story. Just go straight in to them being a fully working established team. Oh and don't bother making Doctor Doom an ex friend. Just have him as the bad guy.

Rumours of a sequel already being canned in favour of a Deadpool sequel based purely on fan reaction to the trailer of the unreleased film.

Pretty much this. They don't need to do a whole origin story film. Hell, ten minutes at the start would do it. Make it a dream sequence or flashback on of them has. Then crack on. This film felt like a whole lot of beginning, ten minutes of middle then a sudden realisation that the movie was going to be two hours long if they didn't wrap everything up sharpish. Doom was rubbish (not the actor, although he was a bit hammy) but overall the film was disappointing. If anything the previous two films were better and that's saying something!

Sounds like there was a very different and potentially great film hidden behind studio meddling...

Always amazes me when this happens. How a studio can take a good concept/script - then meddle with it or throw it out entirely in favour of a much worse one.

Prometheus is another example. The original draft script was awesome - but we got an ill thought out, confused and illogical mess instead.

Watched it. thought it seemed a bit weird, read that article and it makes much more sense.

There was even some stuff that was in the trailer that didn't make the film which seems stupid. There's a chance it won't even make its budget back in the U.S. Which is almost unheard of for a 'Marvel' movie. Let the rights go back to Marvel please Fox, they'll do a much better job.

It happens all the time in many industries. Ultimately, no matter how good your creative team is, when the people with the money insist on getting involved in the process, you have to grin and bear it.

It certainly happens with websites a lot, I can tell you that.

This Oatmeal piece sums it up perfectly and I can easily imagine this happening to films too:

I used to be irritated that Fox/Sony were just unlimited rebooting, but now. I don't mind, I just don't want any more introduction movies.
I'd like the MCU to utilise the smaller more interesting stuff...Moonknight?

And let Fox/Sony do some harder edgier stuff...but they really fked it up with FF. Allow the auteurs to auteur !!!!
