I just cant get to how the entire crew has gone female in the intervening years, needs to be a good premise, all the other cast need including, the fans of the original need to be appeased, I think if it were a franchise operation, that could work.
Wonder what car they will have, will Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver etc have a part to play, will Bill Murray get involved now ?
Will the writing be as good, will the writers get the original and pay it the respect it deserves ?
Such a shame Harold Ramis died, he was up for it.
You clearly aren't aware Rick Moranis retired from acting nearly 20 years ago to concentrate on his family after his wife died. Wonder what car they will have, will Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver etc have a part to play, will Bill Murray get involved now ?

Yeah I read that last year but that was before the rumours of an all female cast and this reboot having no connection to the originalshttp://moviehole.net/201477044weaver-moranis-and-h...

Are there any non-chick flick movies with an all female main cast that have been decent.
I can't think of a single one.
edit: maybe Sister Act - it was ok, but not in the same league as the original Ghostbusters.
It's difficult to think of films that have homogeneous main casts that are stellar. Reservoir Dogs is the one I can think of.I can't think of a single one.

Will the new film have any of the jokes mentioned above? It's all in the writing.
Who knows.

It's so wonderful to see Pistonheads has such modern views.
Personally I think it's a good move because you won't be able to watch it as anything other than an entirely different film. You can't compare it to the original if it has a completely new foundation, and that's a good thing.
A complete and utter cash cow.
Fans had wanted a Ghostbusters 3 for years, there was talk for years. I would have even taken the animated version that was proposed (going into a 3rd dimension).
But to replace the cast completely and make it all fking women!
It will turn out like every other chick based film as others have said, “oh a river, a river of slime” sounds like my period…..
It will be more about how great women are, how they can do everything a man can, rather than a decent film.
It was like when the hangover came out, a generally funny movie and well done.
Queue Bridesmaids, usual female toilet humour

Comparisons with the original are perfectly valid imo.
I get the feeling that they looked at the original, and the fact that Ramis, Ackroyd and Murray were genuinely funny guys and figured the magic formula was to stick a bunch of comediennes in there, and that would tick 80% of the boxes in making a reboot. The thing is though - those guys were genuinely endearing and inoffensive, that's what makes Ghostbusters so great and timeless, it's a family friendly classic*. You just know this new film will be all spiky humour, with probably several jokes at the expense of men, as well as the obligatory McCarthy fat jokes. Uninsipired and insipid.
Ghostbusters doesn't need to be rebooted, the original film is a timeless classic that is just as good to watch today as it was when it came out. It does not need anything added to it, least of all by the Bridesmaids crew.
* Well except for the ghost BJ scene *cough*

Just lazy cashing in by all concerned tbh. Harold must be rotating as we speak. Hope to hell he comes back and haunts whoever came up with this.
If they want to make a chick comedy movie, make Bridesmaids 2 or whatever. Hell you could even put a comedy ghost in it that the fat one can kick in it's spectral pods, but why try to link it to Ghostbusters (apart from the obvious cash angle)? In 20 years time when people talk about movies from the 80's and such and Ghostbusters comes up, some one googles it or whatever (possibly on some 3d hologram jetpack device) and gets this. I think Harold's memory, and the whole cast involved in the original, deserve better.
It's not like its some classic story that can be replayed and respun with different actors / scenario's etc. It's not Kurosawa's Yojimbo, for example. It's just a very good movie of its time that did much better than it might due to the very very good casting and chemistry. It was nailed 100% first time. Trying to remake it is futile.

If it does work, it may be the first successful reboot.
Put them in a Stagea?
Batman Begins was successful. So was Casino Royale, Man of Steel etc.Put them in a Stagea?

Fixed that for you, you can bang on about equality, but when it comes down to it, women are not as funny as men. If they were it would've been made with women in the first place.
It's more like women's humour doesn't appeal as much to men. My favourite stand-ups are mostly men, but Joan Rivers and Victoria Wood are in there also, due to their material and delivery.Silverbullet767 said:

Also, re other points in the thread:
The Robocop reboot was fine if not very "Robocop". It suffers when compared to a nigh-on 30 year old film aimed at adults.
Bill Murray does what he wants and is pretty eccentric generally, which might be why he wasn't in favour of another Ghostbusters.
I'd love to see a Chris Pratt-led Indiana Jones reboot.
I'm not frightened of seeing the same or a similar story told in a new or different way to one I'm familiar with.
Batman Begins was very successful and generally well-received. It was a reboot of a reboot. I doubt it was targeted too much towards fans of the original franchise(s) - and I doubt the studio are hoping to appeal to fans of the original Ghostbusters with this reboot; the audiences who will determine whether or not it's successful were likely not even born until Ghostbusters was a fifteen year old film anyway.
It never ceases to amaze me how precious and narrow-minded people are when faced with the prospect of remakes or reboots. There are good examples from the history of film, just as there are bad or cynical ones. No one dismissed The Magnificent Seven or Fistful Of Dollars as cynical remakes. No one seems to grumble about the new Bond films since the reboot with Casino Royale.
I suspect I might judge Ghostbusters on reviews and/or actually watching it.
