Plenty of sources around, google it yourself.

I'll miss him, it was entertaining show and, at the risk of being a luvvie, he was/is a force for good in American politics (along with Colbert). We need the court jester, we need politicians to know they'll be mocked when they fk up.

What's the closest thing we have? HIGNFY is just too safe these days. Weekly wipe is bleak and mainly about other bullst on TV anyway. Private eye is... good, but again, bleak. The cast of The Daily Show seem to be, well, having fun, and doing actual satire. I guess having fun just isn't the done thing here?

I dip in and out but not seen it for a while. Has it been canned or is he giving it up? Seems a bit of an institution.

Edit: he's giving it up. Needless to say, it won't be the same. Shame.

Just read that JS is leaving. It is one of my favourite shows on TV and never miss it. The John Oliver show is only on once a week and quite short. Interesting what Colbert will do for the Late Show, hopefully full of satire too.

It's all change at the moment.

There must be enough Kay Burley stupidity to fill a UK equivalent of TDS or the Weekly John Oliver show.

In related news I have tickets for the taping of The Daily Show a week on Tuesday. biggrin

This is a brilliant show and something we are desparately lacking in the UK. Comedy is a great way to get people talking about politics and Jon Stewart has perfected the craft over the years so it's a shame he's stepping down, although you can understand why. He seems to have become a major influence in the US; offering a voice for those that don't feel represented by their Government. Kind of like what Russell Brand's trying to do but with a better understanding and without being so divisive.

Anyway, big shoes to fill for the new guy so all the best to him.

In some ways it's frustrating to watch TDS because British TV used to lead to the way with stuff like this. The last ten years has seen a real decline in our satire and comedy and it's become toothless.

We seem to have become dependent on panel shows to provide our satire but that format simply doesn't allow depth.

The Last Leg has the occasional good go of it but even that feels a bit constrained.

Charlie Brooker is a candidate but I don't think he has the heart or interest to get stuck into politics in the way Stewart does. He much prefers to focus on the media from a spectator's point of view.

With an election coming up, now would be a perfect time to have a show like this in Britain.

I wonder if we can poach Stewart... smile

I reckon Matt Forde, writer on The Last Leg would be a candidate https://youtu.be/wtSlZLmJJfQ

Anyone still watching? I stopped for a while then started watching bits and pieces as we approached the election over there but it just seems so st now.

Trevor Noah seems way out of his element and out of his depth most of the time.

Bring back John Stewart - I wonder if a Trump presidency may temp him back?
