The basic plot of a secret agent being so overt and well known to his enemies is ridiculous let's face it. All good films though, Moonraker excluded. Even for Bond that plot was ridiculous.

I think it jumped the shark when the snake charmer (Vijay Amritraj) plays the Bond theme.
And then after jumping the shark it stabbed it in the ear with a pencil, when they played the Tarzan roar while Bond was swinging during the jungle chase.
Agreed. Seems a shame that the admittedly rather good pre-credits and then the railway sequence later in the film (with the Alfa driving embedded in it) were wasted on what could almost pass for Carry On Bond.
Mind you, they couldn't even take the opening sequence seriously, adding that stupid ba-da-da-da-boing! when the fake horse's arse swings out the way of the Acrostar.

Are all Bond films not ridiculous, is that not the whole point and why we love 'em?

I've watched every 007 movie, some many times over. I've still yet to manage to watch QOS in it's entirety, I just can't hack that one for some reason?
Me too. Never seen it all the way through. Humourless and depressing. Mind you, I watch the opening chase sequence with the Alfa 159s quite regularly!

I don't get the 'hate' for QOS, I enjoyed it, but that opening chase is truly epic (IMVHO).

Just watch the Mendes interview above and I'm getting quite excited about SPECTRE...

PS ETA I watched some of Octopussy on Sunday and, I know it was the 70's, but there's something eerily Jimmy Saville about Moore's later Bond... tongue out

Bond also managed to do a Barbara Woodhouse impression too when he says "Siiiitttt" to the tiger that jumps out at him.

I'm a massive Bond fan but I can't get away with Octopussy. Roger Moore should have called it a day then instead of going onto to do a View to a Kill.

HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME
A View To A Kill is on tomorrow and I for one will be watching it. The love scenes with Grace Jones, the jokey horse race the chop shop Renault. All these made it into a truly wonderful film. Well it will seem that way after a hearty Sunday Lunch and lots of wine.

I'm also a big fan of A View To A Kill, to me its the moment at which the films started to get better until their peak at Goldeneye before they started to gradually slip off again.

A View to a Kill is a far better film than Octopussy. One of the best end sequences of any Bond film regardless if era.

View to a Kill is actually my least favourite of all the official bond movies. I will concede that the final scene on the Golden Gate bridge does work rather well.

And let's not forget Alison Doody in the equestrian attire...

I watched Skyfall, I remember the shoot out at the end in Scotland. I even Googled images of Skyfall villain but for the life of me I can't remember him being in the film. What did he do?
The landlord at my local said to me yesterday, "That Bond villain from the last film was in here the other day, got completely pissed. I can't remember his name."
I replied "Javier Bardem?"
The landlord replied "No, he was just drunk. He wasn't abusive or anything."

As a Bond film I thought QOS was very poor.
It lacked all the classic Bond film ingredients

The plot was poor.
There were no gadgets
There was no memorable theme tune
The car chase was poor.
There was no charismatic villain
There wasn't enough totty.

Agree with both points, when I hear it I think. It's a great song in general. But I always forget what the theme to QOS is, it's not a memorable one.

It suffers from the same problem as the theme from Octopussy in that the name of the film isn't mentioned once throughout.

Compared to Goldeneye, you'll never forget Tina Turner screaming 'GOLDENEYE' at the start several times!
