Then at the end, that dentist chair thing (which seemed totally ineffectual as his balance was unaffected and he remembered who everyone was anyway) was just daft. Ridiculously elaborate micro-drills extending on multi-jointed robot arms. What on earth? Who would design something that stupid?
This pissed me off too. Totally failed to explain why the drilly things had none of the effects promised by the villain.

And that sam smith song was utterly, utterly dreadful.

The whole title sequence was pants. Octopus? Yuk. Probably went down well with tentacle fans.

I think Blofeld says if the drill hits the correct spot it will have those effects implying it might take a couple of goes.

I yearn for Bond villains who wanted to wipe out mankind or start World War III. Being a bit of a nosey parker doesn't quite cut it; anyway Theresa May's got that market sewn up and she scares me more than any Evil Overlord.

In a world with no shortage of real life villain scenarios - Russians who poison with radioactive tea, Jihadists who burn alive and behead and so on, it seems almost quaint that Bond's principle target is an IT geek.

It's worth reminding people that to get reluctant countries to back them, they organised a terrorist atrocity to tip the vote their way. At the meeting when we meet Blofeld, they are listing their business interests, including human trafficking. Getting control of the worlds security surveillance was just a step in building their empire.
If I remember correctly, when we first met Blofeld in You Only Live Twice, starting WW3 was intended as a profit making venture.

I thought it started well; the parade to rooftop scene was superbly shot, then the building collapse without Bond even getting dirty, never mind hurt, spoiled it. I enjoyed the helicopter scene but only for the flying itself (see Chuck Aaron flying the Red Bull helicopter on youtube), the actual action in that scene was daft, to say the least

And as for the secret super-villain's super-lair in the middle of the desert being blown up because of one (lucky?) shot at a gas pipe, that goes right back to the cliched Bond films of old, which I thought they'd been trying to avoid since Casino Royale.

Overall, as others have said I think it just turned into a series of loosely-connected but well-shot set-pieces without much of a story to link them together

BTW I read somewhere that the use of CGI in the helicopter scene was the opposite of what you might expect; the flying was real but because of the altitude of Mexico City they had to do the flying at a lower height and CGI the city in behind it.

But why do that? They have people everywhere. EVERYWHERE. The top of mi5 and agents within it. So they must have people in those other 8 agencies why do they need them to share info. Plus they have that base that watches everything and knows everything anyway.

The meeting, that was another let-down. Where are all the electrified chairs which tip their occupants into the pool of piranha fish?

Or sharks. I really miss sharks. There was a time when sharks were as much part of the franchise as meglomaniacs explaining the details of their plans to Bond, just before he escapes their elaborate death trap.

They can't get sharks any more, only ill-tempered sea bass.

Just picked up the box set of all 23 films on Blu Ray for £39.99 on Amazon - today's deal of the day and an absolute steal! (just £26.99 for the DVD box set!)

Thought I may as well share it as some of you may be interested...

I thought it was quite good, somewhere between Skyfall and Quantum.

I was disapointed when Batista got thrown through the windscreen that nobody ran accross and lifted his arm to check he was still alive. They should have lifted it once and let it fall, same thing a second time,on the third atempt his arm would have stayed up and all hell would have broken loose.biggrin

It was by far the worst Bond song I've heard (even worst than the Madonna one) and the worst thing about the film.
