Connery was never going to be in the running.
He was in the running right from the start but was dropped as his presence was deemed to be distraction from the rest of the film.
From what I've read, and reading between the lines, this was a bright idea from the 'producers' that probably lasted for all of about five minutes before being booted into touch by director Sam Mendes. However, at least one of the producers, Barbara Broccoli, must have realised that Connery wouldn't have played ball in any case, so why they bothered raising the possibility in the first place is anyone's guess.

Yeah, bring back Roger Moore....under cover in Venice, swanning around in a gondola that coverts in to a hovercraft. I thought I was watching a documentary about spies at one point.
Or the "spy who loved me", clang, Lang a Lang a Lang a Lang" etc,......

To be fair the opening sequence is quite fun. I believe the film was largely written by George MacDonald Fraser (the Flashman guy), whose books are better than Flemings IMHO. So I'm not sure what went wrong.

It's a distraction for an hour or two.

The only let down for me with Skyfall was how busy the cinema was when I went to watch it. Brilliant film though, it's by far the Bond film I've watched most.
I really liked it. Not sure it was a Bond film though, just seemed a generic spy film IYSWIM.

If , by exciting, you mean a curious mix of amusing and dreadful.

I think it jumped the shark when the snake charmer (Vijay Amritraj) plays the Bond theme.

And then after jumping the shark it stabbed it in the ear with a pencil, when they played the Tarzan roar while Bond was swinging during the jungle chase.

Am I in the minority of quite liking Skyfall? QOS was pretty abysmal I admit though, mainly I think due to the weak plot and not really that scary baddy.

FYEO and Octopussy don't seem to have aged well, they seem to last forever (like diamonds). Then again I watched Roadhouse and Highlander which don't seem to have fared any better.

no, I like it... when made aware of the ridiculous plot line, it is a ridiculous film, but if you can put that to the back of your mind, it appears to be a quality film in all other apsects...IMO..

Keeping half an eye on it last night it wasn't as bad as I remembered, the silly bits with the tennis player and the jungle chase are what spoilt it.

It's a great film probably my 2nd favourite Moore film after Live and Let Die.

Are all Bond films not ridiculous, is that not the whole point and why we love 'em?

I've watched every 007 movie, some many times over. I've still yet to manage to watch QOS in it's entirety, I just can't hack that one for some reason?
