What its about of course is building up the launch and making as much money as possible off the first couple of weeks.

After mentioning it, I went and looked at the top franchises. The top four were not hard to guess.
I think Star Wars would be higher if the old ones were adjusted. It's most amusing that the new one almost equals all the prequels put together.
Now that Potter is done, it's clear what'll be the top three for the foreseeable future.
The only question is, can Bond stay ahead of Star Wars. Marvel will lead for the next decade I reckon.

Do you chaps ever relax and just watch something for a bit of easy viewing and amusement? smile

Maybe my perspective's very different now. Two little kids on the scene so going to the cinema is a great rarity at present and I missed this there. So the DVD it was. 2.5hrs of easy viewing was just the job. No worse than any other Bond film, better than an awful lot of them. Job done (even with the tight suits).

Cardigan - I guarantee you'll do one or both and keep feeding the franchise smile

Now, if they insist on continuing with the love interest rubbish then I might not watch after that biggrin

OK, OK, all I am saying is that cinema doesn't HAVE to be mindless tat, even James Bond. There are good films out there and I much prefer watching ones competently made with a decent script.

Agreed. I can never understand why "it's just a bit of light entertainment - relax and enjoy it" is an excuse for bad filmmaking.

If you think about it, the cast and crew are spending the best part of a year, plus several million dollars on this. It's a full time job for them and everyone from the director down, *should* be there to try and make the best film they possibly can. It takes just as long to film and edit a good film so why wouldn't you?

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't actually bother me in any meaningful way but if asked what I thought of SPECTRE I can't help but think "lazy editing, st suits and nonsensical plot". I'm pretty sure the editor, costumier (Tom Ford?) and writers would be pretty mortified if that was the consensus. Most people who work in film and TV are there because they love it and want to create good things.

Just 'being a Bond film' shouldn't be a free pass to make lazy rubbish.

Yip. One puts one's heart into the work.

Nobody cared. The film was just thrown together and was utter nonsense. And that's by James Bond film standards.

I didn't enjoy it at the cinema when it was released. It's now appeared on Netflix, so we gave it a watch on the weekend.

The wife and I lasted an hour before we turned it off. Really really bad and I love bond films.

I didn't think it was bad - it had its moments but unlike the astonishing Skyfall, I cannot actually recall the plot for Spectre.

It just went on and on. That's 2.5 hours I'll never get back.

Watched again on Netflix and agreed there was no plot. They had tried to bring all the previous films together under the spectre as all the bad guys where working for them, but nothing really happened. The explosion of Blofelds hide out was ridiculous...one minute your brain is being drilled into, a few minutes later you manage to destroy a huge complex of buildings.

Lets hope the new one is actually good.

Love the Bond films apart from Dalton's wooden era but this left me feeling like they are just going through the motions now.
