It said it's been confirmed as an official sequel, so I take that to mean Alien 5?
Entirely dependent on whether the concept art is the direction. If it is, it'll be Alien 5 by name but Alien 3 by story line as 3 and 4 will be retconned out. Hard to know since there probably isn't much beyond an idea, let alone a script yet. Either way, a lot of "win" on the table. Let's hope it stays that way.Negative Creep said:

Doesn't mean they have to follow on from the resurrection story line though - there are a few different ways the could explain both Alien 3 and Resurrection away. Also - if the concept art is accurate and it will contain Hicks as well as Ripley - then how does that work with Resurrection anyway. The story behind Resurrection was that they got Ripley's blood samples from Fury 161 and cloned her because she had been infected with an Alien. Why would they clone Hicks too and where would they get his blood samples from, given his body was incinerated?
IMO it would be cleaner to explain away Alien3 and Resurrection somehow - and carry the story on from Aliens. Even though the atmosphere processor went up - the derelict was presumably far enough away (i.e. greater than 30km) to survive the blast. It would make a lot more sense if Weyland Yutani simply went back to LV426 to investigate the derelict and bring back samples.

One interesting thing about Hicks though is that, despite being awful, Aliens: Colonial Marines is considered canon. In that, it (badly) rewrites the lore to say he survived and it wasn't him who died on Fury 161, but someone else he escaped a WY facility with. So he should be alive after 3 and could be cloned after Resurrection?
Can't wait for this, I'll take it for what it is - sequel, remake, sort of sequel that slots in before Resurrection - after all, it's not Ripley in Resurrection is it, it's a clone and based a couple of hundreds years after the first films?
I don't really remember much of 3.
Are they going with original cast? Sigourney Weaver's 65 and Michael Biehn's 55+ they're going to struggle to CGI 30 years off them.

The Alien timeline puts 199 years after Alien 3 before Alien Resurrection. That being said, it really won't matter if the artwork is true as they can explain Ripley being any age they want, in any time period. Hicks etc, well, they'll no longer be dead so again, easily explained because "SCI-FI". Whilst the artwork is interesting, it's just that until a script is written (and rewritten a dozen times). Weaver, during recent press for the game Alien:Isolation said she thinks there are more stories to tell around Ripley and she'd be happy to revisit, so it's looking positive.I don't really remember much of 3.

Alien 3 and Ressurection being disregarded and Ripley confirmed?!

Trained xenomorphs a la the new Jurassic Park film and the raptor squad are not what we want or need!
The book where a mad scientist was training them wasn't so bad (or at least I didn't think it was 15 years ago!), can't remember what it's called though, I think it's the one after Earth Hive.Trained xenomorphs a la the new Jurassic Park film and the raptor squad are not what we want or need!
