That's a better suggestion than I have seen from anybody else so far.

The thing is, you could get the biggest, nicest petrolheads in the world to host the show, but what made top gear click, was the chemistry between Hammond, May and Clarkson.

Spot on. All these fanciful ideas being suggested of whom will replace them is just that. Fanciful. The chemistry between them is irreplaceable and that's why Top Gear will die a natural death on BBC

Shame James Hunt is no longer with us. James, Coulthard and Chris Harris would have been fun to watch doing a Top gear together.

Absolutely. TG is gone. There will never be another. There may be a car show but it won't be Top Gear even though it might be called Top Gear. It's a bit like the Dreamers without Freddie, the Pacemakers without Gerry, or the Five without Dave Clark, well maybe not but you see what I mean. I quite like TG USA but it isn't the same as TG UK.

Is Top Gear gone? Surely if the Beeb own the rights to it, they can still cash in when someone decides to take Top Gear onto one of their platforms, be it Sky or whoever? BBC don't need to deal with handling Clarkson anymore, if someone were to take it one, you would think having the Top Gear name is too valuable to drop, its instantly recognisable.

From what I know, TG was costing around £1 million an episode, that was their budget, in the world of commercial TV, is that unrealistic to someone like Sky? How much do you think they pay HBO for something like GoT? Has to be similar, and I am sure the revenues made from Advertising and Sponsorship for it would easily cover that kind of budget. And in all, a snip when you consider its something like £6 million per Premiership game in the coming seasons, and I think TopGear is likely to have higher viewing figures, than that too.

Watch it appear on Sky Atlantic any time now.... Sky customer only content, drive up the subscribers...

Just my thoughts anyway.

And yet you still get suggestions for the most ridiculous replacements in the posts straight after yours..

Unfortunately getting on a bit (65 years), but I would have loved to see Robbie Coltrane in the role.

A genuinely funny, intelligent man and a true petrolhead - his, uh..proportions would even have provided for the same Clarksonesque comedic car entry/egress situations. smile

He's made some great motoring/engineering programmes - catch them if you can.

Has to be a woman, preferably with attitude AND driving skills. Any suggestions?
My vote would go with the blond German (Sabine?) who showed Clarkson how to drive at the 'ring.
+1 she was entertaining to watch and certainly knows how to drive.

Be interesting to see how she translated to the UK sense of humour but I remember her being quirkily German which wasn't a bad thing in my book.

I can't take credit for this, but Brian Blessed was suggested which would be an interesting experiment as least for one episode smile

Guy Martin - knew of him, hadn't seen anything he'd done. Youtube. Ah. He's like an even more annoying Robson Green.

Racing drivers - you only have to watch Tiff Needell and Karun Chandhok on 5th Gear to see why Clarkson decided the tame racing driver would not be a speaking part.

If the BBC reboots TG with a new team, I think there will have to be a woman onboard. It won't improve the show, in the same sense that having John Humphys co-present Woman's Hour wouldn't improve that, but it will be deemed necessary.

Hunt......your joking aren't you. When he wasn't pissed, he just dribbled rubbish. No emotions and was just a racing driver etc, ( and an average commentator).

In fairness, some of the suggestions on the BBC News website are equally off beam - Suzi Perry? Adrian Chiles?

I don't know if the beeb would st themselves

While Colin furze is deeply bonkers he isn't got any political leanings i can see

The beeb also have another obscure candidate who is good. There was a childrens TV thing on bloodhound SSC where the kids TV presenter ended up chucked in the back of an extra stunt plane with Andy green.

Of course it was expected green would throw him around the sky a bit look a bit green and job done.

NOPE

You had green pulling bigs Gs and throwing the plane all over the place while this loon sat in the back screaming to harder and faster

No idea who the loon was but he might be a good call
