Will they even be able to have a Stig? I wonder if Clarkson and Wilham have the rights to him/it.

apologies of its been said before, I haven't checked 18 previous pages.
to me they need to replace all three, re launch the show, and focus a bit more where possible on the technical bits.
or invite JC back but only allow him a non speaking role smile
What like fifth gear you mean do tell me where that programme is on right now. At least with tiff and plato was a good mix with 2 racing drivers now plato is no longer on there its dull dull dull.

Don't know where he would find the time. What with his racing career, Isle of Man TT and still holding down a job as a truck mechanic. I think he's more into bikes or old engines anyway.

Before new TG started who had really heard of Richard Hammond or James May? So why not get a few new faces on the programme instead. Fresh blood instead of the same old presenters that do the rounds. I just hope the BBC don't screw it up by giving it to one of their generic presenters just because they've got to find them something to do. Like anyone off The One Show for instance

Also I see that Andy Wilman has said he hasn't quit Top Gear. Ok that could be a biased report as it was on the BBC news website. If the other 3 pop up on a different channel would the resulting programme be as good without Wilman behind the scenes?

Andy Wilman. He was good as a presenter on original TG occasionally. I remember the naked car meet in the USA and the clever use of a rubber duck to preserve his modesty. Just NOT Jason Barlow as he was awful in the dying days of original TG.

The guys at Car Throttle would do a good job, but they cater for a different audience.

Because Hammond and May (and Dawe) were only compared to old Top Gear, and they came out on top. Any new presenters have some very big shoes to fill.

Top Gear wasn't just skidding around, pratting about and telling risqué jokes. It was three mates, and that's what made it so successful.

TBH - it wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't far from the truth.

The BBC is already shoehorning women into comedy panel shows, just to be seen to be being 'equal'. A program with 3 blokes prating around seems to go against current BBC policy.

Got to hand it to the Guardian: that was good. I thoroughly enjoyed that. Not quite SniffP though.

Oh come on. Spaghetti growing on trees I can believe - but Clarkson as an environmental campaigner rofl

The trick with April fools jokes is that the story should have some remote semblance of credibility about it biggrin

if TG is be retained and I hope it is...I can take or leave Clarkson but I like the show.

its not a serious car programme, its an entertainment programme that happens to be about cars...for the millionth time.

VBH would be a good addition, but I suggest Sabine Schmidt. She's known to the TG massive, we know she can drive, and there is a bit of on screen chemistry already even without JC drooling over anything resembling a female...

i think she would be great and I'd wager that many viewers switching off due to clarksons' departure would be replaced with new viewers.

Some utterly ridiculous names being bandied about on this thread. How is Guy Martin a presenter or even a writer? You do realise that Clarkson et al are all actual journalists? They actually have to sit down and write the reviews for the cars they are reviewing on the show.
Spot on mate.

I originally said Chris Harris if Clarkson was to be replaced but apparently others find him dull. They've obviously not seen Clarkson on the old TG format. Wooden and nasally come to mind.

Slightly portly car dealing cheeky chappy? We had that on the series one of new Top Gear lol.

I don't mind losing Clarkson, but I can't see Brewer being the answer given how many people slate him.

It's old news now and someone joked about it earlier in the thread several weeks ago but there was an short piece in the Telegraph today about Sue Perkins being considered for Top Gear.

If I was intending to ever watch the show again (I'm not - and I as much as I liked it I'm not sad it's finished) I would be apoplectic; she couldn't even present a cat and looks like the smug offspring of Harry Potter and Adrian Mole. It wouldn't be so bad if she had charisma but I've seen roadkill with a more appealing personality.

Can someone confirm this is a belated April Fool's joke or is this a cunning plan by the BBC to absolutely kill the show stone dead so they can broadcast more fking cookery nonsense.
