This. There would be no reduction in the top gear tyre bill.

But there would be a massive fall in ratings. Top Gear is not a show made for petrolheads, it appeals to a much broader demographic. Fifth Gear is a very worthy show about cars, now found in the outer reaches of the cable channel due to its ratings, its signal getting ever weaker as it heads into the empty vastness beyond the known television universe.

Rename it 1st Gear and bring back VBH Tiff & Jason , the chemistry between the 2 guys is great , competitive , informed , but without the egos ,
Not watched TG for some time now, I get nothing from the program apart from how quick rear tyres on Bemmers and Mercs can be shredded or how everyday cars can be wrecked by adding stupid extra bodywork etc

Clarkson IS Top Gear. If he goes (and pound to a penny May and Hammond go with him) it doesn't matter what the BBC do with the format, it will go from six million, prime viewing and a big money spinner to being a niche programme watched by a few hundred thousand viewers. A lot on PH moan about TG not being about cars enough; if it was it would be like old TG of Fifth Gear with no mass-market appeal.

All this stuff I see on FB and the media about Guy Martin, Chris Evans and so forth is crap. The show is finished without him - in a way when he sold the rights to the BBC he pulled a blinder: he sold them something for millions that is worthless without him. Sharp.

I think nobody has read the first post, as he said it has to be a woman.
Personally I'd hire a woman that doesn't mind making a fool of herself for fun and has experience of similar shows, like Lisa Rogers (Scrapheap Challenge).
However Clarkson won't be asked to leave, it would cost everybody including himself far too much money. I can't believe that the final straw was over hot food, the man has so much money he could helicopter in a Dominos Pizza.

if he were replaced, and then started a show on a rival channel most if not all of us would tune in I expect. He might be a loose cannon but as a presenter he is very watchable and engaging. The programme he did about the commando assault on St Nazaire for the Beeb was excellent.
