I think that the title is more accurate now, although the youtube video to help people has the name 'copycat.'
All films are released within a year of each other, usually much shorter, months or days.

Deep Impact and Armageddon is a great example.

Ta, mods! thumbup
The scripts for deep impact and Armageddon were brought about by the discovery of a large near earth meteor a few years before which ignited the imagination of a number of script writers. There was some fear that this meteor could be deflected towards earth and cause global destruction. Of course it became clear that no such thing was going to happen but it clearly set off some 'what if' stories. Hollywood reacted to something that caught the publics imagination/attention.

Brilliant synchronicity, not rip offs or remakes,
Oh. So nothing to do with Meteor, then?

If things had turned out different we might have included a couple of films called The Tower and The Glass Inferno.

Tombstone and Wyatt Earp - 1993/1994.

Tombstone is far superior IMO.
'Far' superior? I like it.
Earp was on a few weeks ago, watched it and it made me reread on the Vendetta trail. Nice story.

BAttle Royal?
Over a decade between them. However, there is quite a bit of controversy with the author of the Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins). There are a number of articles that states that Ms Collins has reportedly stated that she has never heard of Battle Royale. This has been met with some disbelief because of the numerous similarities between the two, inspiration, sources, etc. There is an argument that her [Collins] inspirations and source material would heavily lead to knowing about Battle Royale.

That said, Battle Royale is much darker i.e. the back-stories of some of the characters prior to events on the island.

and much more violence. Hunger Games is a 12A certificate but Battle Royal is a hard 18 certificate.

That's only because of the money making need to include the target audience from the books. The books are more graphic than the film.

Its soooo hard to believe that she came up with the same story line independently, because of their similarities, but its also, not the same story. Just generally fairly similar ideas.

THis is not synchronacity, but close, the timeline does propose the possibility of...homage.
Just watched The Machine on sony movies, and it reminded me of Ex Machina. A quick check shows that Ex Machina started filming a short while after The Machine was released... biggrin
