I found it rather boring and disappointed. Can't put my finger on why.
Now I know why!

LT makes the viewer question the subjects and wider society as a whole.

Part 1 didn't haven't much of an angle and was a warm up for part 2 which makes me question whether if it was best if it edited for a 90min slot.

Sad stories, as said.

Is there another show/person who looks at really uncomfortable stuff like this?
Not sure if its still on 4od but Ch4 did a doc a couple of months ago regarding teen sex offenders.

I could have sworn the same guy was in both.

I do like the way he waits for an answer, like with the mother in her kitchen he asked the question and just lets her carry on talking, no stepping in with an apology for the question.

Indeed.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05qkzt2 < Looking at the child in the thumbnail... s/he seems incredibly young to be being 'treated' for gender identity and being allowed to 'transition'. But maybe that is an incredibly ignorant thing for me to say? I mean if you don't know your own gender what do you know?

I shall be watching with interest.

Very. Sebastian seems to have changed in a very short time.

The parents are well sorted. THe thing the dad said, about all the times it has happened before, and the parents don't understand, so then it's just a lifetime of forcing and possibly beating your kid? Because you wanna force it to adhere to some idea of hat you think is correct.

Sounds like the granddad of Camille would have been that sort.

I've got this on but not paying enough attention so don't know which are boys to girls and vice versa.

Weird is an understatement.

There seems to be a huge difference in approach between the USA and the UK, maybe it's something to do with the States being all "private" and the UK being paid for by the state.

We UK folks take a more measured approach, let's put it that way.

Yes, very.

A male who identifies as female and has a sex change, and vice versa, I get that. Makes complete sense.

This picking and choosing bits? Just seems batst crazy.

The guy who identifies as a girl and has had the top half done but is keeping his cock in case he changes his mind later? And his girlfriend who used to be a guy and has had the operation? But they're not gay?

Then there's the kid who wants to be a girl, but is planning to be a guy in later life with two kids and a wife, and live in a Japanese house?

Just.. what? I... what the?

Where's the Jackie Chan confused gif.

Complex and confusing circumstances. I think the parents and doctors/therapists are generally doing a great job all things considered.

Clearly for some gender is fluid and it is important to avoid any permanent changes too soon. - The Cole/Crystal boy/girl was obviously quite confused, possibly because of the parents conflicting views?

But the youngest girl and teenage girl seemed 100% certain.

Not sure about the whole picking and choosing of genital surgery options but I guess it is about removing what you are most unhappy with?

Quite.
The doc had a name for it, but I forget.

Dysmorphia?

No idea if that's the correct spelling.

Gender Dysphoria, previously Gender Identity Disorder.

Certainly a bizarre programme. I take the libertarian approach in that what someone wishes to be is entirely their choice, but how that translates into what in some cases are very young children and the question of parental responsibility, it's definitely a little less clear cut.

I guess that was the point though.

It's so much better that these people are getting help before puberty properly sets in. Previously they got treatment and operations a bit late and the results are often perhaps less convincing.

Could the one with the big ears get help for her habit of saying "like" at least once in every sentence, it was like annoying as hell.

What disturbed me last night was that the little boy described himself as wanting to have children of his own in the future taking the Daddy role and saw himself being a man in the future but his mother referred to him as "she" constantly , almost as if they were guiding him / pushing him in that direction , I only caught the last 200 mins so I may have missed something but that seemed odd to me

Originally mum was certain it was a girl and was against her husband who wanted him to be a boy but also wanted to make no decisions until older. Towards the end, the mum seemed to soften in her certainess and believed that long term the child would decide on being a male so would not make any decisions.

A very difficult line to tread for all the parents involved and they all seemed to be doing a great job.
