Oh, and the very first race - Aston Martin DB9 vs train to Monte Carlo.
I was gonna add that one too.
It's almost like watching an old Connery Bond movie in amongst the Daniel Craig/Veyron era.

The early races seemed to be far less staged - I'm sure they were but there were no daft bits to them really.

The first USA special has to be one of my favourite episodes. It had everything laughs, a bit of drama (with the hillbillies) and a serious note at the end in New Orleans.

I'd also include the rather moving V12 Vantage sequence.

I think 2003-2009 was imho the golden era. Before the over sillyness began and it went for a more 'entertainment' show audience. Nothing wrong with that of course but I did prefer it the earlier days of 'new Topgear'.

Probably true

Not a particularly exciting segment, I'm just an old fan and it was great to see him albeit sans' tache.

Unfortunately something happened today that has chilled me to the core, something that has made me question the very fabric of Top Gear.

Behold:

->Top image, Captain Slow taking off from the north of Italy, whilst Jezza drives his truffle back to the UK in a Veyron.
->Bottom image, Captain Slow landing at 'sunset' in Lille, north France.
