Definitely a stand alone film, no previous MI films needed. Not even any knowing nods to previous missions in the script.

It's a fun action film, with some great driving. The M5 is great, and so is the bike chase.

Been true of most of them to be honest.

Probably going tonight - It's a 'thing' my son and I do, we've seen most of them together, although we don't often go to the cinema together these days (he likes all these stupid comic based films biggrin).

I was disappointed. Walked in armed with wine intent on enjoying it as well. First 15 minutes were good. Opening set piece and the record store. Downhill fast from there. The last film was much more of an ensemble piece and was the better for it. Film before had Seymour Hoffman as a convincingly menacing villain.

This relies almost solely on Tom. Lord knows how Simon Pegg is carving out a career as a Hollywood star. He just served to draw me out of the film. Totally unconvincing. Film slows down to many times, for too long and many of the scenes, especially in Vienna, felt pseudo Bond.

Still, it's doing well so everybody else must like it.

Well I'm in the Yes camp, I really enjoyed it.

I thought it a good mix of clever and action as MI films should be (especially the denoument!).

Rebecca Ferguson was lovely and feisty too and I quite like Pegg in his role.

Set pieces were good and the plot, whilst a little Bond-esque, was at least coherent.

Thankfully, too, the bike chase was exciting and thrilling - Having seen the trailer I had horrible flashbacks to the awful MI:2... squealing tyres on gravel and slow motion leaps - God preserve us from John Woo!

PS My 18 year old son enjoyed it too, so a thumbs up from young and old!

Yep. Watched it tonight, and it was good fun stuff. Stunt stuff was impressive with the plane and the bike chase. I was watching it and couldn't think where I'd seen the woman before, thanks for saying it was the White Queen series, its saved me a Google and IMDB search hehe

Gizmodo haven't been especially kind in their review from a tech / geek perspective.

I do wonder at what point even your most technologically clueless punter will say "that's just ridiculous".

Saw it - enjoyed it lots.

But did anyone else notice the Silver Birch Aston Martin DB5 in the car park of the building the prime minister was in..?

Seems Ethan Hunt wasn't the only agent on the premises... boxedin

one for the cinema not the small screen. the plane stunt is great and smacks you right in the face within the first 5 minutes of sitting down.

interesting to find out locations many of which were filmed here in the UK like the overflow "giant plughole" entrance to fictional high security torus. this was basically filmed from a drone above Ladybower reservoirs (Derbyshire) plughole during an overflow period. this was then put onto a green screen so although Cruise doesnt actually make the leap into the water he does the jump 130ft up. think the gates were filmed from another installation.

Saw it with the Mrs. Both really enjoyed it, very good. The lady spy is certainly worth another look, blimey!

Only things that ticked me off were Simon Pegg as I don't think his character really brings anything, and the rampant BMW advertising! Even the bloody motorbikes were Beemers.

Have to agree with this. Really enjoyed the movie but the BMW product placement was so blatant, it took me out the film sometimes. It's like they were living in an alternate world where BMW were the only car manufacturer in the world.

Simon Pegg I also agree with, I know he is supposed to be the comedy sidekick but it just doesn't work for me. Strange as I have enjoyed some of his UK based films but I just don't think he "fits in" in Hollywood movies.
