X Files new series
Discussion
Watched the first episode last night and the biggest thing for me was the appalling acting. Mulder mumbled and slurred throughout like he'd just been woken up halfway through sleeping off last night's session and Scully looked as though she was either going to burst out laughing or burst into tears. It didn't help that she looked as though she'd had plastic surgery on every last square millimetre of her face or that she looked infinitely better in Johnny English.
Poor start, although I fully expect to watch the rest of the series.

The episode felt x-filesy to me, which is a big plus. Not like when other series / films are rebooted and feel vastly different to their predecessors. I thought Duchovny played Mulder as world-weary and fed up with it all, not the fresh-faced excitable agent from years gone by. However he then becomes passionate again when offered the scent of conspiracy (as usual).
Overall I thought the episode did for the X-files, what Star Wars: The Force Awakens did in terms of rehashing the story and plot of the first film (or X Files Pilot episode). It was kind of the same story with a few different aspects inserted to bring it to the viewers of 2016, who may not have been well-versed in all that had gone before.

Coming from loving the original it did seem a bit weird with the modern slant, and i agree it seemed as though they tried to cram as much into the first episode as possible whilst glossing over the fact that Mulder seems to have wanted to go off grid but then all of a sudden is immediately allowed access back to the FBI, etc.
I'll stick with it for the full 6 episodes as it sounds as though the 1st & 6th episodes will deal with mythology whilst the others are made up of creature features / comedy elements (based on earlier posts on this thread).

Some loose ends eg why didn't the Army exterminate all the scientists when they blew up the alien vehicle.
I thought they did (based on the CGI) - they burned in the craft explosion that engulfed the hangar.Blackpuddin said:
I think the Muller/Scully dialog didn't help, it was a bit weak, especially the scene outside Sveta's door. Otherwise I enjoyed it. Some loose ends eg why didn't the Army exterminate all the scientists when they blew up the alien vehicle.
Yes, the big shouty argument sounded forced to me.I also thought the blowing up of everything was a tad unsubtle. In the original series evidence and witnesses would just...disappear...
Watched the first ep last night after being a massive fan as a youngster (well, up to series 7).
Felt very weird, pretty much half a series worth of core mythology crammed into an hour. Something like the disappearing craft would have been series-ending stuff before, now it's a throwaway 2 minutes before they move onto the next thing.
Looking forward to the monster of the week stuff, I think it was a mistake to try and do mythology and monsters in one 6 episode run.

And also looked great in War and Peace.Just watched as far a half way through episode 2. The creature looked like something from the original star trek series, Mulder sat in his old office saying most things they found were explained as nothing 'X-file-type' at all, he walked about like an old git with a phone that he couldn't operate, some of hte3 scenes were almost comedy sketches and he had a conversation with Scully but basically knew everything she was going to say. If ever an episode said 'This series should never have have been made, that was it.'
