Thanks for the tip - I watched it alone as my wife was out last evening, but when she came back I told her I wasn't bothering with it any more.

Sounds like I'm making the right decision.

A truly terrible hour of TV, almost comedy at times but not intentional.

Also a rather bizarrely long car chase, which may actually have been a Ford Mustang commercial - blatant product placement in a most unsubtle way.

I don't think it does get worse, every epsiode since the first of the season has been better and episode 4 was fantastic, written and directed by Darin Morgan who also did by far the best epsiode of season 10, definitely worth tuning in for that one even if you give the rest a miss.

Standard for the US though as their commercial product placement rules are wide open compared to the those here in the UK (since it was introduced here years ago requiring the "P" logo before / during / after advert breaks.

Based on the Ford blurb below, expect more obvious placements for a few other vehicles too.

When the new X-Files miniseries hit the airwaves last weekend on Fox, you were probably more interested on the unfolding conspiracies and the unexplainable weird than transportation. So what car do Mulder and Scully drive in the new X-Files? You guessed it! They drive a Ford. Of course it's not just any old Ford, FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully drive a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum. This top-of-the-line SUV brings excellent power to the road at a reasonable price, and the addition of the elite Platinum trim means that this seven-passenger beast comes equipped with some of the best technology and connectivity features on the market.

“Pairing the vehicle that set the bar for SUVs with the show that set the standard for sci-fi television is a great relationship,” said Ginger Kasanic, Ford marketing manager, SUVs and technology in a recent Ford press release. “To be a part of an iconic television show that is so technology-centric is a perfect fit for the Explorer range – a vehicle loaded with driver-assist technology.”

The partnership of Ford with the X-Files dates back to the original season in 1993 when Mulder drove a Ford Taurus. We doubt that that original had many of the great features available on Platinum Ford vehicles today. The Ford Taurus (though likely not the original vehicle) will appear again in the new X-Files miniseries, along with a Ford Escape and a Ford Mustang at some point in the six-episode series.

Yep, Fords have appeared through-out the series so far and it is very obvious!

Tried this the other night wasn't particularly impressed but will try a few more episodes.

Am I alone in being amazed by how old they all looked, apart from Ms Anderson of course. cloud9

All but effectively canned by Fox as they've elected not to renew for Season 12. Evidently it could return again in the future, but there are no plans for anything "at the moment".

It appears the last season saw a massive drop off in viewers (i'm not surprised tbh as although a couple of the episodes were decent / funny, a lot of them were just filler you could skip over).

I don't think it will be missed. I dipped into the latest season a couple of times and it was utter rubbish.

What about the old episodes? From the early 90s onwards?
Maybe they felt more special, because it was something fresh and new at the time?
