Chris Harris for Top Gear
Discussion
I think he's way to straight laced and sensible for Top Gear in its current guise. I know JC's gone, but we're yet to find out if Hammond and May will stay. I don't see Harris having the charisma for the show to be honest. I like his videos, but he doesn't make me laugh and I'd struggle to watch the guy for more than a minute if he wasn't driving.

I personally think Harris can't present to save his life, the way he comes across makes my teeth itch sometimes.
Agreed I enjoy watching him race and drive but his presenting style is painful and I can't understand why people go crazy for it. Whilst I love Chris' videos and certainly watch more of them than I watch Top Gear, I think he'd be suitable for a 'Final Gear' type programme on at an obscure time for proper petrolheads. Top Gear, in contrast, isn't a car programme, it's a car based family entertainment programme, and Chris wouldn't be a good choice for that, any more than Jim Al-Khalili or Brian Cox would be - they do Physics, Chris Harris does cars. Clarkson does car based entertainment; let's not forget that like James May, Clarkson's been just as good on other programmes too (Inventions that Changed the World for example for Clarkson) - he's an entertainer.

1. Chris Evans

3. Brundle (already at SKY) and Webber

Will be a shame if that is true. 1. Chris Evans

I actually think a programme with DC, Webber and Button could work. 3 former F1 drivers pissing about in cars all 3 come across very well and are up for having some fun. And it could fit around other commitments once this season is over and Webber convinces button to switch to LMS

TopGear is now dead....
Either that or it goes into hibernation for at least a year, Clarkson sorts his head out, new production team & writers hired and then Clarkson, May & Hammond all get new contracts. Few people would say that the show would suffer as a result of a lengthy break to let the dust settle & maybe get some new ideas.
Without Clarkson, Hammond and May there is no Top Gear. I don't believe Hammond and May will continue with Top Gear at the BBC without Clarkson, I just hope that the three of them can take a similar format to some other platform. I can't stand the BBC so if we can have the only program on TV worth watching back but on another network then I'll be happy.
My prediction is that the the three of them will do something together but it will be a different format of program whilst the BBC will attempt to continue Top Gear with a trio of ethnically diverse, free range homosexuals which will be a complete cringeworthy flop and will be cancelled after one or two series.

I think if it continues in any way they will have to change the format. Asking a new team to copy what these 3 have done is essentially saying 'we need 3 middle aged men to have a mid life crisis on tv, but make sure it's funny yet politically correct'. Any attempt at that is going to be pretty painful to watch, as it has been at times more recently on Top Gear.
If the presenters were far younger (say in their 20's) then I could understand that driving around in home made ambulances, smashing things up and crashing some Peugeot's into a hedge could be more acceptable, but its just comes off as moronic to see somebody that's 54yrs old doing it.

James Martin could present a revised / re-formatted Top Gear - a real petrolhead and his programme that covered his entry in to the Mille Miglia was very watchable
Petrolhead programs die very quickly on mainstream TV it's all about the comedy which has made top gear uk a success Without that comedy it's finished basically imo
Nah, Chris Harris is awesome but don't think he would do himself any favours on Top Gear.
I don't think its a dead show either now Jeremy Clarkson has gone, it just needs a revamp of all the presenters to avoid someone looking like a Clarkson replacement.
Top Gear US and Australia follow similar formats to ours, and I enjoy both of those - so I think it can work with new personalities.
I also hope Jeremy continues to write and present elsewhere.

Chris wouldn't suit the TG program at all. Hes too much of an enthusiast and TG is simply entertainment for the masses. Imagine the average Joe listening to Chris go on about steering feel, balance or introducing the phrase foot pounds when describing torque....rather than 'torques'.
I hope this wouldn't offend Chris but he is a proper petrol head through and through and wouldn't fit the profile required.
Id love to see a program or series involving Chris Harris, Guy Martin and Steve Sutcliffe, but not an entertainment show.

Harris wrote about TG yesterday, excellent piecehttp://jalopnik.com/how-top-gear-made-us-all-care-...
Top Gear existed before Clarkson and it will carry on after. Sadly i really don't think it will take off. Not for me at least anyway. I for one won't be watching. I'm a huge Clarkson fan but i think the past 2 series have been a shambles and a complete let down. Whether that's just me and my opinion then fair enough. I genuinely think it's ran it's course though and i think Jeremy knows that. He even agreed with this on Twitter in regards to at least one episode from the last series that seemed to infuriate the general public.
I'm also a huge Chris Harris fan. However he has his own platform which is perfectly suited to him. He isn't a TV presenter which is what the BBC want. Top Gear is pure entertainment. It's focus on car reviews and facts is minimal. I do think Chris's videos are entertaining aswell but not in the same way. Clarkson is the best part about Top Gear. Love him or hate him he is still a brilliant TV host which is why he is still due to be on Have I Got News For You.
It is a shame he will no longer be a part of Top Gear. I can respect why James and Richard decided to not carry on with it either. Those 3 come as a package and together they make a brilliant motoring program. I don't think Top Gear is even for me anymore on the grand scale of things but i'd still like them to carry it on. I's still a good watch for entertainment purposes but that's it for me. I think i preferred it when i was younger when my knowledge of cars was alot more basic. Now i'm older and have become more technical and even more enthusiastic, passionate and involved in cars, i can relate to Mr Harris more and prefer the content that he produces.

BBC + Humour = Lenny Henry.
Absolutely. A very, very funny man who is criminally overlooked. Waking him up from his Linton Travel Tavern slumber once a year for Red Nose Day once a year is a waste of this mans many talent. They should at least shoe-horn him into Children In Need as well.Lenny Henry AND Miranda; the BBC is the very definition of the word 'comedy'.
