UPDATE:

So I just called them. Apparently I am committed to Sky until 4 September although I would dispute that I ever agreed this. Anyway the retentions man agreed to give me a credit equal to the difference between the charges between now and my end of contract date which is 4 September.

I have a diary note to call again late July (need to give them 1 months notice to quit so by 4 August) to re negotiate.

Oh the joys of Sky!
Are you already getting some sort of discounted deal? I think it's pretty standard that if you take up a retentions offer, you are under contract for a fixed amount of time (typically, at least as long as the duration of the offer).

The really annoying bit for me is the fact that if i make any changes or re negotiate my package i will lose sky F1 as i am on the legacy deal, and any price increase for me is steal massively cheaper than having the sports package.

I am about £42 a month for basic + Entertainment+ or family bundle and HD. If i add movies or remove entertainment + i lose F1, and as you need the whole sports package to get F1 that's another £22 odd straight off the bat a month.
I added movies at half price for 6 months and then Sky to negotiate a further 6 months at half price along with a further loyalty discount.

I asked many times and they insisted that I would not lose my legacy F1 deal even if I decided I wanted to lose the movies.

I have heard this, but i have also heard as many folk say, after the 6 months, they find F1 has gone tata.

The main issue is, even if i got a good deal for say 6 months, or even 12, after that ill be paying some £64pm for sky tv....

I had been posting my cancellation story after the price rise on the other thread

To cut to the chase Im now on a 12 month deal at 50% with no tie in whatsoever - as the operator said why would I leave?

I had various offers for 9-12 months at 35-50% verbally, online and through the box set up menus

A week before D Day the best available was 35% for 9 months via my box and then I installed the Sky service app on my phone and it gave me the 12 month 50% offer with no ties

It was not made massively clear that Id lose F1 legacy until a week later - bit sneaky - but I get it with the sports so no drama

Im happy!

thanks for the tip - how did you get away with not being in a 12 month contract?

actually juts called them - not as good as it seems it just knocks 50% off TV bundle, not HD mix (a laughable £12 per month) or the BB and line rental - saves me £34 which matches Virgin price but without the extras Virgin offer

After reading this thread I pullled my finger out an finally got around to cancelling the Sky sub. Should actually have done it a couple of months back when I got the BT TV but always got distracted.

Thumbs up to Sky for quick customer service though - there was a very short wait to get through to the cancellation team and after I said I had BT and didn't really bother much even with those extra channels let alone the Sky channels, they didn't try to stall me. Mentioned I could have a 35% discount but I pointed out that it wouldn't make me watch the channels any more than I do so it would only represent a 35% smaller waste of money to me.

So overall a quick and painless cancellation experience. I'll use some of the saved money to upgrade to unlimited data BT infinity (currently capped) for video downloads and streaming ;-), will think about getting Netflix as well as Amazon Prime and might take on a NowTV entertainment pass next time I see a deal going.

I know that there are lots of people especially from an older generation who won't really go this route but I figure that increasingly most tech-savvy customers who are used to using the internet for entertainment will be like minded to me.

I agreed a discounted deal on 5 September last year. I understood that it was a 1 year fixed price which I could cancel when I wanted. There was specifically no mention of a 'lock in'. Now they are saying that they can increase the price but as I posted they have agreed to effectively hold the rate until September.

Sky are bar stewards IMO and the call centre staff cannot always be trusted. evil

I'm currently on a 50% off everything (think it's £39 something).

Mines going up to over £80 next month with the prices increase.

I dont; use Sky much anyway as usually only BT Sport and Netflix. Catch the odd game on Sky Sports but could give it a miss or worst case pay the £27 through BT.

I called them up to cancel and they offered to keep my current package, all the channels & HD for £48 including the new price increase. It's reasonable but I've still cancelled as it's still £48 for the odd premier league game.

For everyone who is renewing at the moment, are they offering any discounts on Sky Q?

I have been scratching round various sites whilst planning my Sky cancellation game of poker and the general assumption is that youve no chance as its still new and fresh

It's ridiculous isn't it. The monthly fee will soon approach what the BBC charge for a whole year and the BBC make their own TV shows and run News depts etc and don't have advertising!
SKy have started making their own stuff too.

Yeah, so I keep hearing. I was hoping that in some given circumstance there might be something. Hey ho.

I was at my parents the other day and they've just had SkyQ installed. The only benefit at the moment I can see that would make me pay extra for it is the wifi hotspot from the boxes dotted around the house. The controller is horrendous, and I'm not a big fan of the GUI but I accept both of these things will probably become second nature over time.

Seriously if you come to an arrangement with Sky over the phone keep careful notes. I came to an arrangement with them last September which they now consider was a 1 year commitment tho I was careful to confirm with the Sky rep that was not the case. I have notes of every conversation with them including the name of the person I spoke with.

I've been offered 50% off but looking in the t&cs it's 35% off I'm guessing it down to the bundles.

I had exactly that too.
But when I called them they happily honoured the 50% off.
I think the T&Cs are just linked from the older offer.

Where are you guys seeing subscription offers on MySky? I can't find a thing and I'm not that stupid(normally)...
I've only got Sky Sports for the F1 and is about £50pm which is testing my commitment.

I have it showing on the main page once I have logged in. It took a few weeks to appear though, before that if you clicked on offers it just gave you a number to call.
