He pretty much always drives. Drew said a while ago that he had a bad back and driving the van aggravated it.

I don't think I have ever seen Drew drive the van in any episode, and I think I've seen pretty much all of them.

Can't say I blame him. If he's paying an employee to accompany him then he may as well employ them as a driver, given the big miles they seem to do. There's little driving enjoyment to be had in mile-munching a Luton van.

I've always felt they needed a better van, more in keeping with the goods they deal in not to mention Drew's obvious interest in all things wheeled.
It would need to be a resto mod to deal with the miles they do or at least something for the TV visits as I appreciate they probably go through several vans a year.
Something like an old Bedford luton or even a Mk 1 Transit for local things.
Properly signwritten it would look great and a much better ad for the business in front of some of the cracking buildings they visit than a new ish white luton.

I suspect he wants something with a lift and something that is a little more reliable for long distances than a classic.

Local, small collections would work great for a mk1 Transit or the like but not for the distances they cover

Narr you can't haggle out a deal - then go and load it into a flashy new van.

(ignore the fact he's got a whole TV film, sound and lighting crew stood behind him!)

Despite pointing out to his mate that he'd bought the wrong interior for the 2.0S Capri they were restoring he still managed to buy another wrong interior and proclaimed many times that it was the proper one. He seems pretty clever but I wouldn't trust his expertise on some of the finer details.

I've said it before, but I think he has a good eye for antiques, vintage, and decorative salvage, and has done well for himself there. But I don't think his modus operandi of "buy, tart up to make it 'different' and 'unique', sell for profit" really works with cars.

He's clearly a car enthusiast though.

I'v thought this before about not having his business name on the side until someone (on here) pointed out that he almost certainly parks it up overnight in hotel car parks etc.
So advertising what's inside probably wouldn't be the wisest thing to do.

Ive watched all the series from the 1st,he did his share of driving in the first few series but definetley none in the most recent few (at least not on camera) I see the point about getting a paid employee to drive, but the vast majority of the stuff he buys is easily movable by one person, with the help of a sack barrow if needed,i bet he's needlessly paid out thousands of £££s in wages to Tee.
Re the van I think in one or two of the series he was using a Citroen relay luton van,and the programme was sponsored by Citroen vans UK,so he probably got the van on long term free loan.
Something else I notice, when the narrator announces Drews next destination,a map comes up on the tv screen showing the route they will take, they always seem to take a very indirect route and probably end up doing many more miles than needed

Yes but the little bits of 'back-and-forth' between Tee and Drew do make it a bit more of rounded show.. and anyone that has to do those kind of trips on a fairly regular basis will probably agree - having a mate sat next to you does make the trip go a lot quicker.

I'm of the opinion the road-trips around the country picking up a few bits are purely for TV.
Makes no business sense spending a couple of days buying a few items that would just about break even when you take the expenses (fuel, wages, hotel costs etc) out.

Yes, I imagine that's why the personalised plate went, too.

I guess some of them are, but he does put a fair mark up on stuff. We probably don't see everything they buy on their trips either.

Also, I think they do a lot more stopoffs than they make out. If you look carefully at the "look what we bought" reveals back at base, you'll often see exactly the same cars parked in exactly the same places on several of them.
I only noticed because Drew bought something like an RS6 on one trip, and not only was it already there when he got back, but it appeared in the same spot on several subsequent shows, and it wasn't just because it hadn't moved - the cars around it were identically parked too.

There are frequently continuity errors which suggest that the road trips are a lot more productive than they make out.

Best not to analyse it too closely - it's a "facts-based Reality TV show" after all. smile

I hadn't noticed that, but I've often had the impression that the stuff in the van was in a different order to how it had been put in when they bought it earlier in the programme. I guess it's much easier (and therefore cheaper) to bunch as many shots in the same location and do them at the same time.

Yes, I've noticed that too. yes

I've also noticed them buy a large table at one place, load it into the van, and then go to another place and buy stuff and put it into an empty van.

Something else that is starting to bug me is that they tend to spoiler whether or not Drew bought something, inasmuch that if they show the item(s) cleared and moved to a better area for an establishing shot whilst they tell you the estimated value, then it's pretty much a given that Drew is going to be successful in buying it/them.

This is particularly spoilery when he's bidding at an auction.

Just watched an episode featuring the propeller from a Heinkel HE111.

After Nev the blacksmith had created a superb display stand for it and Drew had established that the Heinkel had actually been shot down by Guy Gibson he reckoned that the provenance would mean it was worth a ''six figure sum''

Oh dear...

You win some, you lose some. I bet Drew still made a profit though, even after whatever he paid for it and whatever Nev charged him for the work.

But, yes, not a 6-sigure sum.

Yeah I agree, he probably did still make a profit on it, but it just goes to show that especially with more obscure items his valuations are complete pie in the sky... but I bet there are still plenty of idiots with more money than sense that do pay those prices due to the emperors new clothes effect as it's the "renowned Drew Pritchard" selling it (although obviously not in this particular case).
