The ending couldn't have been any more perfect. I had a couple of tears roll down my cheeks, then decided to man up when the lights came on... cool The other half was crying her eyes out though!

It must be just me then. 3rd one I've seen with the boy, now aged 10. The first thing that strikes me is the cult fan base. The film I think is in it's 2nd week and was totally packed. Not with kids. It with adults. I'm sitting there thinking, another 2 hours of my life I'm not going to get back and have to endure this rubbish, but hey ho, the boy likes it. Had a very smartly dressed middle aged couple next to me and the woman was really into it, laughing and thoroughly enjoying it as were the rest of the audience. I just don't get it? Jason statton (sp) aka Danny dyer, can't act and just makes me laugh. I try never to watch any film he's involved with as I know they are going to be ste. The script is just as bad. How many crappy interlinked story lines can one film have? I know you are supposed to leave your intelligence in the car park, but people really do seem to love these films? I rated it 0 out of 10 .... The boy won't tell me his ... I'm just hoping he's growing up and developing a discerning taste.

I'm 35 years old and I love F&F. In fact it's more than that, it's a culture, it's a lifestyle, as you alluded to.

I was 21 when the first one was released in Cinemas, and it was smack in the middle of one of the biggest waves of car modification culture. We all read Max Power, Revs and Fast Car magazine, and our lives revolved around cars, car shows and car cruises which were everywhere back then. Entire car parks filled with neon, chrome, wide body kits, candy paint, dump valves and ridiculous sound systems.

Prior to F&F, the mainstream media, apart from a a few magazines, had largely ignored what was going on, and when it was released it was the most amazing thing.

Most of my friends had silly cars such as Skylines, MR2 Turbo's, Supercharged VR6 Corrado's, all extensively modified and some had been magazine featured.

It died a bit of a death in the late 2000's but now the scene is back and with regular meets, cruises, and really good shows such as Players, Ultimate Dubs, and suchlike.

Even now I still cannot help myself and pretty much have to modify every car I have, which includes two 911's. Carbon fibre RSR wings, 19" split rims, lowered suspension, race mufflers are amongst the many goodies on my 993.

I went to a cruise recently and as I made my way into the packed car park people stared as my car rumbled through the crowd to find a parking space, just for that moment, I felt like Brain O'conner when he drives into a cruise in his Skyline in 2 Fast 2 Furious smile

Childish I know, but I just can't stop it. It's in my blood smile

As for this film, I really enjoyed it and thought it was better than the last couple. The ending, as others have said, simply could not have been any better.

I like films like this... and its not just F&F. Big fan of absolutely rubbish films like Battleship and Pacific Rim (though Michael Bay's last transformers was the first of the big dumb movies I felt like walking out of). They don't have great acting or dialogue, they don't have complex plots and physics is usually more of a guide to be treated with contempt than a set of rules to rigidly follow.

There is obviously space for clever, intelligent, realistic films that make you think. But I think you do need the 2 hour brain out romp films like these for when you've slaved away in front of MatLab all day and just want some entertainment.

They're just fun things to watch. What more do you want?

Besides, you could always "re-calibrate" your bad film sensor by watching complete arse like :

Oszombie - Zombie bin laden rises from the dead, along with his un-dead mob to seek revenge
IronSky - Nazi's on the moon
Wolf Cop - Drunk small town police man turns into a wolf at night. Pure B-movie cack
Blubberella - ludicrously bad, about a fat vampire woman, set in WWII, whose mother is a badly blacked up dude and she has a laptop and a segway with french bread in the basket on the front. Its terrible.
Manborg - Man becomes a cyborg to fight count draculon
Sharknado - sharks in a tornado.

The list of absolutely horrific movies is endless.

these will suddenly make films like F&F appear to be master pieces of art.

It's not so much they are total drivel, it's the mass following of the franchise and people really getting in to the films, that i can't get my head around. Even if i had a Turbo charged supra, i'd still laugh at the films. There will always be crap films, but very few get to number 7! I love cars, don't get my wrong, but even the cars in FF wouldn't want me to spend another minute watching these.

It doesn't matter that the films are a load of far-fetched rubbish. If you go in expecting them to be masterpieces of cinematic art, you're going to be disappointed. But if you accept them for what they are, suspend your disbelief and ignore the plot holes, lunacy and curious physics, then they're great. A good way of passing a few hours.

We saw 7 on Sunday, and we really enjoyed it. We thought it was a bit loud at our cinema, but then they do tend to overdo the volume a bit. It would be nice if the F&F people would use a decent soundtrack for a change. wink

I was expecting the Paul Walker tribute bit, although I didn't know what form it would take, and I promised myself that since I was expecting it, I wasn't going to cry. Oh no. But I took in some tissues anyway, just in case. And it was just as well. hehe

Nailed it. I grew up with these films too and I daresay they helped shape car culture worldwide, for better or worse.

I don't think you really understand the culture that the original F&F film was based on, and that isn't a criticism, it's just an observation.

As Art0ir said above, the films shaped and defined custom car culture for many people, albeit in an exaggerated American way. Not only did they help shape it, but they actually reflected what was going on out there.

The car tuning/street racing/cruise/show scene is a massive subculture that many people felt the original film captured. That's why so many people took it to their hearts.

So far it's pulled in $384m worldwide just over the Easter weekend. I think you might be in the minority wink

Spot on ninja. I ended up living with a fellow cruiser for four year while at uni. Had loads of great nihts out and anyone would pick you up or help you out. It was like the in scene though not as contrived as made out in the F and F films. Id bet alot of the piston head members are ex cruisers.

Me too, but it was deliberately bad which made it funny.

Not going to bother with this FF film until it is on Now TV as the last two, even maybe the last six were pants.

The interesting car culture theme was lost after Tokyo Drift.

Went to see it with the guys last night and had a ball. A lot of lolling and huge grins during the "impossible" action scenes.

As per impossible. The F&F has a nag for doing it big time, so much that it often distracts from the action. My two mayor examples are in 5 & 6, first the vault being dragged by those two muscle cars... The physics broke my brain. Then the impossible long runway.

On that front, while the action here was VERY improbable (as in: he survived that? He made that jump? TWICE? That thing still flying?), it wasn't that impossible for me that it distracted. Improbable enough to merit a good laugh though.
So enjoyed it and the send off for Brian (Paul) was great. Liked his cars in this movie, and despite the little glance of the Speedster in the beginning, no Porsche during the entire movie? Coincidence? Although to be fair, it's always been Muscle vs Import with little to no German cars.

As for his final cars, loved the GT-R, but apparently Paul really preferred the older ones so would have been great to see him in an older one again (loved his silver & blue R34). The Supra was a great choice and from the looks of it his own 1998 Supra, so all the better for it.

Edit: Forgot to add, it's my new favourite after 1 & 2. Ties in with Tokyo drift nicely as well.

I need to see this.

IF you want stty movies, get the SyFy channel, they show all the Asylum movies like "The Day The Earth Stopped" and "Transmorphers". Plus their own stty attempts are always good for a laugh.

F7 was the tits, they all are (apart from 2). I can't get my head around people complaining they're unrealistic. If you want a "realistic" car film, watch Born 2 Race, which is about as st and cringeworthy as it sounds.

Loved it. Ridiculous as ever and much better than 6 IMO.

The tribute was well judged I thought. Liked the aerial shot at the end of Paul taking a different road, quite poignant.

Not much I can say really, this whole franchise has been a massive part of my driving life, I can still remember watching the first film with about 10 mates, all off us plotting which car we where going to get and what we where going to do to it.

This film was a fitting tribute to Paul, great to find out that was his own car at the end. I remember watching the commentary for 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Paul Walker saying how it took ages for him to persuade the filming team that he should be allowed to the little half handbrake turn towards the crowd after the bridge jump finish and look where the stunts ended up for this film.

The CGI of Paul was a little obvious sometimes and the whole hiding his face playing with Jack on the beach at the end was meh, but it had to be done, it still felt right and the whole tribute at the end was amazing.

I imagine the franchise will go on, one brother in hospital, one in prison that has to be sorted, perhaps Hobbs will have a bigger role and step into Brian's shoes, so to speak. Who knows, well the studio execs I suppose, it would be stupid to kill off the entire franchise if it is still making money, in their eyes any way.

I did enjoy seeing Jason Stathams character loosing a fight, not sure if I have seen that in a film before.

Can't say much else really apart from if you are a fan of the franchise go see this film even with all the action dominating there is always the message of family and friendship running strong through all these films and that is a good thing in this day and age.

RIP Paul Walker that was one hell of a send off.
