I was thinking the coming weeks I might end up a bit like Dave Lister, so revisiting the boys from the Dwarf would be a good preparation..

..Did you find them online? I've not looked yet.

Sorry I gave up on it. Certainly lost it (Whatever IT is/was) but it was more cringe than anything else.

For me its watchable and charming, but it's not classic RD. I did like the return of Holly though.

We have to face it - the glory days of series I to VI are long gone.

Absolute tragedy. Why can’t they get the other writer to come back? V and VI particularly are superb and then it just all fell off a cliff.

Everyone has their own story of something that, as a child, they were incredibly excited for and turned out to be a massive let down. Mine was series VII. I remember counting down the days until it aired on BBC2, then sitting there with the whole family trying to work out how it was suddenly desperately unfunny.

I think it changed when money was pumped into it and become all cinematographic with slick and expensive effects rather than jokes. Also didn't one of the writers leave?

Crashed more times than a ZX81 - Classic nerd joke.

Even at the time the cgi was crap, and it hasn't got better with age. Whilst it was always low budget, the obvious models and wobbly sets had a charm that couldn't be replicated. It felt more like a sitcom in space than a comedy drama, and to this day I've never been able to get through either 7 or 8 without giving up. Back to Earth was miserable as well - when I say there were no jokes it wasn't because it was unfunny, it was because they didn't write any jokes in and made it Coronation Street in space.

Grant and Naylor wrote the first six series together (using the pseudonym Grant Naylor on the first two novels and later as the name of their production company, although never on the episodes themselves).[36] Grant left in 1995,[16] to pursue other projects,[37] leaving Naylor to write series VII and VIII with a group of new writers...
