That was the despair squid episode, it's not a spoiler because it was part of the squids attack and introduced us to the cats alter ego biggrin

I think the first few series are very well written, Future Echoes in particular, where Lister goes into a room and encounters future Rimmer just prior to Rimmer from the present, the conversation is comedy genius.

Yep, I'm a fan. It's on Youtube.

I rewatched them all up to Series 8 recently via Amazon prime.
1&2 had their moments but were not as good as I remembered, it really hits its stride from 3 to 6 then we get to 7 which I hated at the time but actually had some good comedy in it. I still think Kochanski was trying too hard as she got much better in 8 when she stopped trying to be the Rimmer character.
I actually really enjoyed 8 this time round some proper laugh out loud moments.
10 I need to re-watch, it wasn't as bad as I feared the first time out and I feared it a lot after back to earth.

As with all too many shows, it got a bit naff at the end IMHO and I've not watched the "Return to Earth" bit or whatever the latest thing was. You can also see when the popularity increased and the budget too...

So good I used to watch it with my Mum and younger brother. As mentioned earlier Polymorph was a standout episode, my favourite line being:

Red Dwarf - Polymorph. "I think we're all beginning to lose sight of the real issue here, which is: what are we going to call ourselves? I think it comes down to a choice between "The League Against Salivating Monsters" or, my own personal preference, which is "The Committee for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society." One drawback with that--the abbreviation is C.L.I.T.O.R.I.S.", Rimmer.

Still cracks me up every time....

I've never seen one before, no one has, but I'm guessing it's a white hole.

One of my favourites is "Backwards" from season 3. The last scene of the Cat in the bushes caused me extreme muscular fatigue from the laughing rofl

It is now, it's been mentioned on the Big Bang Theory a couple of times and Craig Charles has said that there are collectors there who would pay big money for Lister's jacket (Craig is holding onto it). I'm guessing it's more of a Monty Python popularity though where it's popular among certain groups.

A white hole?

Lost on most people but I always liked "Crashed more times than a ZX81"

Loved it back in the day. A lot of it still stands up today. I wonder if they'll do a series 11? I think series 10 was quite well received. Ignoring that back to earth thing. That was like a bad red nose day special.

Back to Reality

Generally considered to be one of the best episodes (if not the best) and usually tops fan polls of favourite episodes.

It was the final episode of series 5 and was originally written to be the very final episode as it looked like some of the cast would not be available in the future. The series would have finished with the revelation that the whole Red Dwarf story had been virtual reality video game. However, the script was re-written to allow for the possibility of another series.

With the possibility of a Duane Dibbley spinoff series? biggrin

I picked up Llewellyn's book "The Man in the Rubber Mask" on the cheap kindle deal the other week which looks interesting.
